Hello everyone,

Some time ago, I purchased a kitchen with Ikea Metod fronts and now want to clean them as gently yet effectively as possible – using environmentally friendly products. I am especially interested in methods and products that do not contain harsh chemicals that could damage the surfaces or harm the environment.

How can I best remove stains, grease, or fingerprints without risking scratches or dull spots? Which home remedies or natural-based cleaners have worked well for you? Perhaps there are also special care tips for the fronts to keep them looking good for as long as possible?

I know that the Metod fronts are made of coated material, so I avoid aggressive cleaning agents. Thank you very much for your experiences and advice!

I would have assumed that long-term use could damage the surface.

That is a valid point. Vinegar and acids should indeed only be used heavily diluted and with caution. My advice is to apply the solution only locally and not over large areas, wipe off immediately with clean water, and never let it sit for an extended period.

Some furniture manufacturers recommend mild soap solutions without acids instead. To be on the safe side, you can use homemade cleaners made from pure soap flakes or natural vegetable oils.

To summarize:
- no concentrated acids
- no soaking
- always rinse thoroughly

This helps protect the surface in the long run.

Good morning everyone,

I would like to add that when cleaning Ikea Metod fronts, drying is very important: after cleaning, the front should be wiped thoroughly with a dry, soft cloth to prevent water spots or swelling.

I also recommend regular cleaning to avoid dirt and grease from settling in the first place.

For maintenance, a natural furniture oil or wax is suitable if you want to avoid chemical products. It gently polishes the surface and protects against new dirt buildup.

This is a small extra effort but pays off in the long run!

I clean my Metod fronts simply with lukewarm water and a soft cloth. For stains, sprinkle a little baking soda on the cloth, gently rub, then wipe off with clean water and dry.

No acids, no scrubbing. This method has proven effective.

Thank you for the great and varied tips, very helpful!

One question: How exactly do you apply baking soda? Is the powder simply sprinkled onto a damp cloth or dissolved in water? And how do you manage application on sensitive areas or corners?

I’m reluctant to damage the surfaces, but stains are unfortunately unavoidable in everyday life. One more general question: Are there any eco-friendly sprays or ready-made products you would recommend despite the focus on sustainability? To make the cleaning process even easier.

I prefer to sprinkle baking soda in small amounts onto a slightly damp, soft cloth and gently rub the problem areas. Avoid pressing too hard and always wipe down with clean water afterwards to remove any residue.

Yes, there are eco-friendly cleaners on the market, often plant-based and free from harsh surfactants. When buying, look for certifications like "ECOSPRAY" or "Blue Angel." These cleaners are usually suitable for coated surfaces and are gentle on the environment.

For safety, always test on an inconspicuous spot first before using on larger areas.
