Hello
Has anyone here already looked into the installation options for dishwasher fronts in the new Metod kitchen system? I have spent some time researching this topic and would like to share my current findings with you:
As I understand it, IKEA now offers the option in Metod to have the dishwasher fronts divided, so they appear as if the dishwasher has multiple drawers. Alternatively, you can install a continuous door as before. This can also be selected in the online planner, which will then display the desired front layout.
Additionally, I found out that Metod requires a special mechanism where the dishwasher fronts slide along rails attached to the dishwasher door. I think it works similarly to the sliding doors on refrigerators.
What isn’t clear to me yet is whether this special sliding mechanism is mandatory with Metod, or if you can still mount the front fixed directly to the dishwasher door as before. Does this have something to do with the different plinth height between Metod and Faktum?
If you want to attach multiple partial fronts to the dishwasher door, you need the Vaglig (20250663) product. This consists of two rails that hold the partial fronts together. But as far as I understand, this does not include the sliding mechanism itself.
For the sliding mechanism, you then need either Resonlig (50248348) or Behjälplig (50242426). The difference between these two seems to be that they fit different dishwasher models (Resonlig for Skinande, Rengöra, and LAGAN; Behjälplig for Hjälpsam). However, I have not yet figured out which one is needed for a non-IKEA dishwasher.
There is also Ersättare (00250664), which appears to be an installation solution for semi-integrated dishwashers. Since IKEA does not offer semi-integrated appliances in their range, Ersättare is probably designed specifically for non-IKEA models that you want to install in Metod. I have also looked at the installation instructions for Ersättare, but some things are still unclear to me:
As I understand it, the lower part of the front must be a partial front with a height of 20cm (8 inches), which is hinged in such a way that it flips open when the dishwasher door is opened. Does this mean that a continuous front is not possible with semi-integrated dishwashers???
Additionally, the instructions state that the upper partial front, also 20cm (8 inches) high, must be cut to size depending on the dishwasher’s trim height. I assume this would only apply to fronts without embossed patterns, because if, for example, I cut a Lidingö front (which has an embossed pattern) in the middle at 20cm (8 inches), I would be cutting through the design?
Since I want to install an existing dishwasher with a semi-integrated front in my new Metod kitchen with Lidingö/Bodbyn fronts, I am currently puzzled about how the installation should actually look.
Since Metod will be available in Austria from April 1st, I will definitely ask IKEA then.
Does anyone already know the answers to my questions?
Best regards

I have an 80cm (31.5 inches) front panel because the solutions described here in the forum (e.g. doweling or routing space for a rail) seemed too complicated for me. Otherwise, everything is 40x40cm (16x16 inches), but the mismatch at the dishwasher doesn’t bother me in hindsight.

At the moment, I find handles at IKEA quite difficult to choose. Luckily, I still had METRIK handles at home that I use for both the dishwasher and now also the fridge (I didn’t find the upward-pointing BLANKETT either attractive or practical)

Okay, thanks for the information! I will try making a 20x20x40cm (8x8x16 inches) front panel. Let’s see how it turns out.

I installed a Siemens SN65M037EU dishwasher in my new IKEA kitchen.

The dishwasher is mounted all the way at the bottom. Still, the 60x80 cm (24x31.5 inches) front panel slightly touches the dishwasher when opening. In the fully opened position, it is completely parallel to the floor. Only during the opening movement is there an angle where the front scrapes against the dishwasher (it feels like the front panel is 1–2 mm (0.04–0.08 inches) too thick).

As far as I can see, my dishwasher does not have a Vario hinge.

Do you have any ideas?

I had no idea that only certain dishwashers could be installed, so I simply ordered a new Siemens model SN65P082.

After a lot of back and forth, I wanted to order another dishwasher with vario rails that are also suitable for 80cm (32 inches) fronts. These are the two models:
SX736X03ME
SN758X06TE

However, then I applied Steffan’s method, meaning I completely disassembled my Siemens SN65P082 and, lo and behold, it fits. I have two 40x60cm (16x24 inches) fronts even though I have the smaller machine and not an extra-large dishwasher. This is because I raised the kitchen by 2cm (1 inch) to 90cm (35 inches). Here are some pictures:

Thank you for the well-illustrated post. Could you also tell us how much deeper the front panel could be installed at the door if all tolerances are fully utilized, that is, whether the base plinth really must be at least 9cm (3.5 inches) high?

Hello,
here are a few more pictures with the trim strip 10cm (4 inches) and 80cm (31.5 inches) front.
I wonder if it would fit with a 9cm (3.5 inches) strip (9 80)?

As mentioned, the dishwasher is not an XL model but only 81.5cm (32 inches) high. The IKEA front is divided into two parts (2x 40x60cm (2x 16x24 inches)) and screwed on directly.

At the back, blocks are fixed with double-sided tape to prevent the dishwasher from sliding backward, since it is only fastened on the right side; the washing machine will be installed on the left.

Hello,

I installed a Neff GX662 (with a Vario hinge) in my kitchen, which worked well except for the BLANKETT handle, which I had to replace with another one. I now have a question about the kickboards. The feet of the dishwasher stick out slightly compared to the METOD cabinet feet. How would you install the kickboard in this case?

I underestimated the depth of the kickboard brackets, but in the end, everything fit.
