rouven84Hello everyone,
we are planning an open U-shaped kitchen for our new apartment.
We generally want to use non-IKEA appliances.
Here are a few questions:
1) Which fridge/freezer combination would fit into the 220cm (87 inch) high cabinet? Do you have any recommendations? And how do the door fronts work? As far as I understand, the upper door would open both the fridge/freezer section and the upper storage space of the tall cabinet. Is that correct? So if I want to open only the upper compartment, would the 240cm (94 inch) version be the only option?
2) The oven should be built high into the tall cabinet. From what I have read, fitting ovens into IKEA cabinets is usually less problematic. We are planning a Neff or Siemens oven here.
3) For the induction cooktop (80cm (31.5 inch), Siemens), we plan to place it centered between two 80cm (31.5 inch) cabinets. Has anyone done this before? Does it work? I assume the side panels need to be cut out a bit for this? What does the area below the cooktop look like? We want base cabinets with drawers there. Is there enough clearance for the induction cooktop?
The extractor hood will be a chimney-style hood with head clearance.
The sink will be a quartz composite one from Schock, and the dishwasher will be placed underneath. Is there anything to consider here, besides that the dishwasher needs to be an XXL model with a Vario hinge?
4) Lighting. We saw the following solution at IKEA, which we really like. However, I do not understand how the flush-mounted solution is achieved. Normally, the lights are mounted on top of the base cabinet. Do you have any idea what exactly is needed for this?

Have I missed any important points we should consider?
Thank you in advance!

Schmidti822 May 2016 07:06Hello, I took a look at the planning.
1) See IKEA expert
2) I would swap the refrigerator and the oven cabinet so that you can place a baking tray directly from the oven onto the countertop next to it.
3) For the north side, I would suggest arranging from the right:
40cm (16 inches) base cabinet with waste sorting system
80cm (31.5 inches) with cooktop (also fits perfectly under the extractor hood) and you only lose the top drawer in one cabinet
20cm (8 inches)
80cm (31.5 inches) (the corner cabinet is omitted)
4) See IKEA expert
Also, your sink base cabinet has an extra panel on the right side. Does this work with the window and the faucet?

Hello and thank you very much for the replies.
IKEA expert: You’re right about the refrigerator; we will first choose one and then see how it fits in. Of course, I meant installing the dishwasher under the draining area of the sink, not directly under the sink itself.
Schmidti82:
The position of the oven was chosen intentionally. We initially had the same thought as you, but in our opinion, the refrigerator inside makes more sense. For example, when coming back from shopping and unpacking everything on the countertop, the path to put things into the refrigerator is shorter this way. The coffee machine will be placed in the open corner on the left, making it more convenient to reach for the milk. Since the refrigerator is generally accessed more frequently from this area of the kitchen than the oven, this arrangement makes sense to us.
Regarding your layout for the north side, I think it would look too busy. The kitchen is open to the living area, so some symmetry is necessary for the overall appearance to be pleasing. Besides, using a 40cm (16 inches) and 20cm (8 inches) base cabinet wouldn’t really gain much. Both corners would end up unused, and where would the pots go?
Thanks for the tip about the end panel!

IKEA-Experte2 May 2016 14:31Do you have some pictures of the design? The planning software does not run on Linux.
Hi and thanks for the explanation.
However, the thread about the corner isn’t really convincing. We could at best fit an additional 60cm (24 inches) cabinet if we remove the corner cabinet, but on one hand, pans with long handles don’t fit well there, and on the other hand, the 60cm (24 inches) cabinet disrupts the symmetry of both the base cabinets and the wall cabinets in relation to the base cabinets, in my opinion.
Regarding the refrigerator, the following Siemens model is among the finalists:
Do you think this unit will fit in the 220cm (87 inches) cabinet?
IKEA expert: here are the photos from the planner.
The induction cooktop should, as mentioned, be placed between the two 80cm (31 inches) cabinets, which the planner currently does not allow.

IKEA-Experte2 May 2016 15:10The combination fits in a cabinet with doors 80cm (31.5 inches) by 140cm (55 inches) or a drawer 20cm (8 inches), doors 80cm (31.5 inches) by 120cm (47 inches).
I am always surprised by how little the freezer compartment is used nowadays and how much space is taken up in the refrigerator.
I find it better to have the frying pan easily accessible in the cabinets below the cooktop. I don’t see how a 60cm (24 inches) cabinet would disrupt symmetry; the corner cabinet also has a 60cm (24 inches) door.
The two individual wall cabinets seem odd to me. I would have extended them up to the tall cabinet.
