Hello
Has anyone here already looked into the installation options for dishwasher fronts in the new Metod kitchen system? I have spent some time researching this topic and would like to share my current findings with you:
As I understand it, IKEA now offers the option in Metod to have the dishwasher fronts divided, so they appear as if the dishwasher has multiple drawers. Alternatively, you can install a continuous door as before. This can also be selected in the online planner, which will then display the desired front layout.
Additionally, I found out that Metod requires a special mechanism where the dishwasher fronts slide along rails attached to the dishwasher door. I think it works similarly to the sliding doors on refrigerators.
What isn’t clear to me yet is whether this special sliding mechanism is mandatory with Metod, or if you can still mount the front fixed directly to the dishwasher door as before. Does this have something to do with the different plinth height between Metod and Faktum?
If you want to attach multiple partial fronts to the dishwasher door, you need the Vaglig (20250663) product. This consists of two rails that hold the partial fronts together. But as far as I understand, this does not include the sliding mechanism itself.
For the sliding mechanism, you then need either Resonlig (50248348) or Behjälplig (50242426). The difference between these two seems to be that they fit different dishwasher models (Resonlig for Skinande, Rengöra, and LAGAN; Behjälplig for Hjälpsam). However, I have not yet figured out which one is needed for a non-IKEA dishwasher.
There is also Ersättare (00250664), which appears to be an installation solution for semi-integrated dishwashers. Since IKEA does not offer semi-integrated appliances in their range, Ersättare is probably designed specifically for non-IKEA models that you want to install in Metod. I have also looked at the installation instructions for Ersättare, but some things are still unclear to me:
As I understand it, the lower part of the front must be a partial front with a height of 20cm (8 inches), which is hinged in such a way that it flips open when the dishwasher door is opened. Does this mean that a continuous front is not possible with semi-integrated dishwashers???
Additionally, the instructions state that the upper partial front, also 20cm (8 inches) high, must be cut to size depending on the dishwasher’s trim height. I assume this would only apply to fronts without embossed patterns, because if, for example, I cut a Lidingö front (which has an embossed pattern) in the middle at 20cm (8 inches), I would be cutting through the design?
Since I want to install an existing dishwasher with a semi-integrated front in my new Metod kitchen with Lidingö/Bodbyn fronts, I am currently puzzled about how the installation should actually look.
Since Metod will be available in Austria from April 1st, I will definitely ask IKEA then.
Does anyone already know the answers to my questions?
Best regards

IKEA-Experte3 Jan 2016 00:13If I buy a built-in dishwasher without a flexible hinge system (Vario hinge), for example, one that specifies a front panel height of 650–750 mm (25.6–29.5 inches), and I choose a front panel within that range, it will fit the dishwasher but might not match the surrounding cabinets. XXL models from Siemens and Bosch without flexible hinges can accommodate front panels with a maximum height of 775 mm (30.5 inches). If the front panel is taller, it will hit the baseboard, preventing the door from opening. The flexible hinge system allows the front panel to move upward when the door opens. Therefore, on an XXL model with an integrated flexible hinge in the door, the front panel can be up to 800 mm (31.5 inches) tall.
In this situation, I would lower the dishwasher and use a panel above it.
Or move the dishwasher somewhere else entirely, like into a tall cabinet? I don’t know the layout, but as it is now, the setup is quite suboptimal. You can’t open the trash bin and the dishwasher at the same time. Although even in a tall cabinet, some modifications will be necessary.
The retrofit was done on 07.01.2016. The carpenters initially said it wouldn’t be possible because the front would still hit at the bottom. After I convinced the carpenter to try, it worked! Thanks so much for this great tip!! Lowering the dishwasher and attaching the front with about 5cm (2 inches) overhang (on a dishwasher with a soft-closing hinge and a maximum front height of up to 750mm (30 inches)) worked perfectly
Thanks, Alaba!
Hello,
We will only get a new IKEA Metod kitchen in the fall, but we already need to buy a new dishwasher now. Otherwise, I will have to wash by hand until then. Our Miele has broken down after more than 20 years, and repairing it is no longer worthwhile.
I have read a lot on this topic and hope I have understood everything correctly. A fully integrated dishwasher requires a "vario hinge," a height of 865 mm (34 inches) for an XXL appliance, and a door height of up to 800 mm (31.5 inches) for the front panel?
After extensive research, I found the Neff model S72P69X0EU, which meets all these requirements. However, before ordering the appliance, I wanted to check here once more whether installation will really be trouble-free.

IKEA-Experte8 Mar 2016 22:54Hello,
Don’t you want Miele anymore?
The Neff fits.

Thank you for the response.
I have to be honest, the price differences are so significant that it doesn’t have to be a Miele anymore. However, the Miele dishwasher that would still be within our budget is too noisy since our kitchen is open plan.
A completely different question is coming up now: will a fully integrated dishwasher even fit in our current kitchen? And how do we handle the front panel until we purchase the Ikea kitchen? The Miele dishwasher is only semi-integrated. My husband will measure everything tomorrow to see if it’s even possible at this stage.
