Hello
Has anyone here already looked into the installation options for dishwasher fronts in the new Metod kitchen system? I have spent some time researching this topic and would like to share my current findings with you:
As I understand it, IKEA now offers the option in Metod to have the dishwasher fronts divided, so they appear as if the dishwasher has multiple drawers. Alternatively, you can install a continuous door as before. This can also be selected in the online planner, which will then display the desired front layout.
Additionally, I found out that Metod requires a special mechanism where the dishwasher fronts slide along rails attached to the dishwasher door. I think it works similarly to the sliding doors on refrigerators.
What isn’t clear to me yet is whether this special sliding mechanism is mandatory with Metod, or if you can still mount the front fixed directly to the dishwasher door as before. Does this have something to do with the different plinth height between Metod and Faktum?
If you want to attach multiple partial fronts to the dishwasher door, you need the Vaglig (20250663) product. This consists of two rails that hold the partial fronts together. But as far as I understand, this does not include the sliding mechanism itself.
For the sliding mechanism, you then need either Resonlig (50248348) or Behjälplig (50242426). The difference between these two seems to be that they fit different dishwasher models (Resonlig for Skinande, Rengöra, and LAGAN; Behjälplig for Hjälpsam). However, I have not yet figured out which one is needed for a non-IKEA dishwasher.
There is also Ersättare (00250664), which appears to be an installation solution for semi-integrated dishwashers. Since IKEA does not offer semi-integrated appliances in their range, Ersättare is probably designed specifically for non-IKEA models that you want to install in Metod. I have also looked at the installation instructions for Ersättare, but some things are still unclear to me:
As I understand it, the lower part of the front must be a partial front with a height of 20cm (8 inches), which is hinged in such a way that it flips open when the dishwasher door is opened. Does this mean that a continuous front is not possible with semi-integrated dishwashers???
Additionally, the instructions state that the upper partial front, also 20cm (8 inches) high, must be cut to size depending on the dishwasher’s trim height. I assume this would only apply to fronts without embossed patterns, because if, for example, I cut a Lidingö front (which has an embossed pattern) in the middle at 20cm (8 inches), I would be cutting through the design?
Since I want to install an existing dishwasher with a semi-integrated front in my new Metod kitchen with Lidingö/Bodbyn fronts, I am currently puzzled about how the installation should actually look.
Since Metod will be available in Austria from April 1st, I will definitely ask IKEA then.
Does anyone already know the answers to my questions?
Best regards

Hello edardi,
can’t you lower the feet of the dishwasher by the corresponding centimeters? Then the fronts should fit as well (they will of course need to be attached higher up). You can cover the gap between the dishwasher and the countertop with leftover carcass parts, etc. (there are usually some leftovers since there’s always something that needs to be cut) or shorten the fronts by 10cm (4 inches).

Hello edardi,

I assume it doesn’t work because the dishwasher has a Vario hinge but isn’t an XXL model. Now, the only option left is basically to DIY.

Is the replacement part still available for purchase?

Fingers crossed.

Thank you very much for the quick responses!

@robi_aus_ffm: Thanks for the tip! I hadn’t thought about that at all. I assumed you had to screw the dishwasher all the way at the top to secure it, so it wouldn’t pull out or anything when opening the door. I could definitely cover the gap; I still have plenty of leftover materials.

@Juliette W: Thank you I hope I can manage it somehow, it would be a shame to ruin the whole kitchen just because of the dishwasher.. I can easily order a replacement.

Dear Ikea kitchen specialists,

I had an IKEA METOD kitchen with white handleless Voxtorp fronts planned and installed.
Unfortunately, the installation of the dishwasher (Siemens SN76P030EU - 81.5 cm (32 inches) height with Vario hinge) could not be completed because the 60 x 80 cm (24 x 31.5 inches) front, despite the Vario hinge, prevents the dishwasher door from opening (the lower part of the front hits the dishwasher).

Dimensions:
Niche height: 88.5 cm (35 inches) (floor to underside of countertop)
Plinth height: 8 cm (3 inches)

Here is what I have in mind:
1. According to Siemens’ technical drawings, fronts for SN7.. dishwashers should have a height between 655-750 mm (25.8-29.5 inches).
This means that the current front might be 5 cm (2 inches) too tall.
Could I simply cut off 5 cm (2 inches), or even 10 cm (4 inches), from the front and fix it securely at the lower part?
I would need to sand down the longer part of the front (75 cm (30 inches)) by a few millimeters to allow enough space for the door to open with only a minimal gap.

2. Install the Siemens folding hinge (special accessory for dishwasher folding hinges for taller cabinet heights SZ73010).

3. Replace the 60 x 80 cm (24 x 31.5 inches) front with four Voxtorp drawer fronts 60 x 20 cm (24 x 8 inches) - 902.731.90 combined with ERSÄTTARE 002.506.64.

Could you please give me some advice? I would be very grateful for any answers, as the kitchen is basically finished.. Thank you very much

In this situation, I would consider lowering the dishwasher and using a panel above it.

Alternatively, you could relocate the dishwasher entirely to a tall cabinet. I don’t know your full plan, but as it stands, this layout is quite suboptimal. You can’t open the trash bin and dishwasher at the same time. Even in the tall cabinet, some adjustments will probably be necessary.

@Alaba: Thank you for your response! I will try adjusting the cabinet fascia and lowering the dishwasher. I need to file a complaint about a 20cm (8 inch) pull-out cabinet because its front panel was installed too high; after that, the installers will implement the dishwasher solution.

I will definitely provide further feedback on this.

The placement of the dishwasher and trash bin is really very suboptimal. Due to the poor layout of the space (103 m² (1110 sq ft) apartment with a 2.2 m × 2.3 m (7.2 ft × 7.5 ft) kitchen niche including a ventilation shaft in the corner), it unfortunately couldn’t be arranged differently.

THANK YOU to everyone who responded so quickly!

Hello!

I’ve been struggling with the IKEA dishwasher issue for a while now. So I finally signed up and hope to get help from IKEA experts like you.

Here’s my question: If I buy an XXL dishwasher and use a Vario hinge, can I install the 80 x 60 cm (31.5 x 23.6 inch) Bodbyn front, even though the appliance schematic says the front can only be a maximum of 775 mm (30.5 inches)? Did I understand that correctly?

I’m getting frustrated because I can’t find a dishwasher listed as 800 mm (31.5 inches) wide except for one Miele model, which costs around €2000 and is therefore beyond my budget.
