Hello
Has anyone here already looked into the installation options for dishwasher fronts in the new Metod kitchen system? I have spent some time researching this topic and would like to share my current findings with you:
As I understand it, IKEA now offers the option in Metod to have the dishwasher fronts divided, so they appear as if the dishwasher has multiple drawers. Alternatively, you can install a continuous door as before. This can also be selected in the online planner, which will then display the desired front layout.
Additionally, I found out that Metod requires a special mechanism where the dishwasher fronts slide along rails attached to the dishwasher door. I think it works similarly to the sliding doors on refrigerators.
What isn’t clear to me yet is whether this special sliding mechanism is mandatory with Metod, or if you can still mount the front fixed directly to the dishwasher door as before. Does this have something to do with the different plinth height between Metod and Faktum?
If you want to attach multiple partial fronts to the dishwasher door, you need the Vaglig (20250663) product. This consists of two rails that hold the partial fronts together. But as far as I understand, this does not include the sliding mechanism itself.
For the sliding mechanism, you then need either Resonlig (50248348) or Behjälplig (50242426). The difference between these two seems to be that they fit different dishwasher models (Resonlig for Skinande, Rengöra, and LAGAN; Behjälplig for Hjälpsam). However, I have not yet figured out which one is needed for a non-IKEA dishwasher.
There is also Ersättare (00250664), which appears to be an installation solution for semi-integrated dishwashers. Since IKEA does not offer semi-integrated appliances in their range, Ersättare is probably designed specifically for non-IKEA models that you want to install in Metod. I have also looked at the installation instructions for Ersättare, but some things are still unclear to me:
As I understand it, the lower part of the front must be a partial front with a height of 20cm (8 inches), which is hinged in such a way that it flips open when the dishwasher door is opened. Does this mean that a continuous front is not possible with semi-integrated dishwashers???
Additionally, the instructions state that the upper partial front, also 20cm (8 inches) high, must be cut to size depending on the dishwasher’s trim height. I assume this would only apply to fronts without embossed patterns, because if, for example, I cut a Lidingö front (which has an embossed pattern) in the middle at 20cm (8 inches), I would be cutting through the design?
Since I want to install an existing dishwasher with a semi-integrated front in my new Metod kitchen with Lidingö/Bodbyn fronts, I am currently puzzled about how the installation should actually look.
Since Metod will be available in Austria from April 1st, I will definitely ask IKEA then.
Does anyone already know the answers to my questions?
Best regards

Hi,

The Siemens SX76P030EU dishwasher (with VARIO hinge) works perfectly with the IKEA Metod 80cm (31.5 inches) front. No adapters like the IKEA Vaglig/Behjälplig are needed. The VARIO hinge pushes the front upwards into a guide in the dishwasher door when opening.

@Eolienne

How is your dishwasher door front handling the weight? Can your dishwasher support the weight of the front panel? Our Bosch (which is very similar to Siemens) pulls the door down with such force—caused by the 8kg (17.6 lbs) heavy front—that I’m worried about damaging something over time if I don’t guide the door down by hand and just let it “fall.”

It seems our dishwasher can’t be adjusted either (door, spring tension).

Hi,

I can confirm this. Everything fit perfectly. However, the connecting rails (Vaglig) for a two-front panel system could not be installed because the rails need to be screwed in exactly where the Siemens system has to be attached. Flat bars from the hardware store are helpful here.

Hello,

that sounds quite positive already.
Could someone please confirm whether the Blankett handle, which is screwed to the inside of the door, has enough clearance? In other words, does the handle not rub against the dishwasher? Is there enough play?

It should work. The dishwasher can still be adjusted vertically after installation. Alternatively, when fitting the front panel to the dishwasher, you can immediately factor in or allow for the required extra space.
Remember to install the handle on the dishwasher BEFORE mounting the front panel.

So, after almost a month, I finally managed to install my kitchen. I learned an enormous amount about kitchen furniture and had to redo many things several times, but installing Behjälplig was really not a problem. Here are also my experiences.

Background: I wanted to buy a large-capacity dishwasher and had 90.7 cm (36 inches) of space up to the top edge of the countertop. I also wanted a 4 cm (1.5 inches) countertop thickness, so the space up to the bottom edge was 86.7 cm (34 inches). The large-capacity dishwasher just fits there. The Miele can handle 80 cm (31.5 inches) fronts without any aids, but it was too expensive for me. BSH has the Vario hinge, but the only dishwasher that met my combination of features / energy / water consumption AND the Vario hinge cost 1200 EUR instead of 600 for one without the Vario hinge but with everything else I wanted.

I had hoped for the “Stefan solution,” but reality caught up with me, and I installed Behjälplig. In hindsight, I realized that there are very simple mathematical principles behind this.

About the Stefan solution: The front would need to be positioned so that, measured from the bottom edge of the dishwasher, only the maximum allowed dishwasher overhang remains. In my case, this would only have worked with a standard-height dishwasher, not a large-capacity one. The rule of thumb here is: the dimension of the front minus the allowed measure must not be greater than the bottom edge of the countertop minus the minimum height of the dishwasher. The dishwasher is simply installed as low as necessary, and filler strips are placed between the dishwasher and the countertop so that it can be nicely fixed with the countertop.

About attaching Behjälplig to the existing drilled holes of the dishwasher: You simply unscrew the short screws from inside the dishwasher and replace them with the long screws provided with the dishwasher. These screws are actually meant to hold the front panel, but with Behjälplig, they hold the two wooden boards on the left and right, onto which the front panel is then hooked with metal rails. Regarding the remark from an IKEA expert that Behjälplig might be too short to use the bottom brackets: yes, that is indeed the case. I didn’t use the bottom brackets at all. You could have extended the Behjälplig boards in some way, but that seemed like too much effort. Even when attaching a normal front panel to a dishwasher, the connection mainly has to withstand tension in the upper area of the door handle. There are hardly any forces acting at the bottom anyway. For this reason, I assume that Behjälplig will work with any fully integrated dishwasher.

By the way, the weight of the front panel is apparently not really an issue when using Behjälplig: my door stays open at any angle. It is actually almost too stiff for me.

I also took a few photos (in my personal album; unfortunately, I have no idea how to link photos directly in the post) so you can better imagine how it works.

Good luck to everyone who still has kitchen installation ahead!
