Hello
Has anyone here already looked into the installation options for dishwasher fronts in the new Metod kitchen system? I have spent some time researching this topic and would like to share my current findings with you:
As I understand it, IKEA now offers the option in Metod to have the dishwasher fronts divided, so they appear as if the dishwasher has multiple drawers. Alternatively, you can install a continuous door as before. This can also be selected in the online planner, which will then display the desired front layout.
Additionally, I found out that Metod requires a special mechanism where the dishwasher fronts slide along rails attached to the dishwasher door. I think it works similarly to the sliding doors on refrigerators.
What isn’t clear to me yet is whether this special sliding mechanism is mandatory with Metod, or if you can still mount the front fixed directly to the dishwasher door as before. Does this have something to do with the different plinth height between Metod and Faktum?
If you want to attach multiple partial fronts to the dishwasher door, you need the Vaglig (20250663) product. This consists of two rails that hold the partial fronts together. But as far as I understand, this does not include the sliding mechanism itself.
For the sliding mechanism, you then need either Resonlig (50248348) or Behjälplig (50242426). The difference between these two seems to be that they fit different dishwasher models (Resonlig for Skinande, Rengöra, and LAGAN; Behjälplig for Hjälpsam). However, I have not yet figured out which one is needed for a non-IKEA dishwasher.
There is also Ersättare (00250664), which appears to be an installation solution for semi-integrated dishwashers. Since IKEA does not offer semi-integrated appliances in their range, Ersättare is probably designed specifically for non-IKEA models that you want to install in Metod. I have also looked at the installation instructions for Ersättare, but some things are still unclear to me:
As I understand it, the lower part of the front must be a partial front with a height of 20cm (8 inches), which is hinged in such a way that it flips open when the dishwasher door is opened. Does this mean that a continuous front is not possible with semi-integrated dishwashers???
Additionally, the instructions state that the upper partial front, also 20cm (8 inches) high, must be cut to size depending on the dishwasher’s trim height. I assume this would only apply to fronts without embossed patterns, because if, for example, I cut a Lidingö front (which has an embossed pattern) in the middle at 20cm (8 inches), I would be cutting through the design?
Since I want to install an existing dishwasher with a semi-integrated front in my new Metod kitchen with Lidingö/Bodbyn fronts, I am currently puzzled about how the installation should actually look.
Since Metod will be available in Austria from April 1st, I will definitely ask IKEA then.
Does anyone already know the answers to my questions?
Best regards

IKEA-Experte1 Feb 2015 18:49A divided cutlery basket can also be placed in the upper rack. When unloading, I take the cutlery basket with me to the cabinet and unload the cutlery without bending down. If a lot of cutlery needs to go into the dishwasher, I can also remove the basket and place it on top. With large plates, the upper rack cannot be lowered completely. When using a cutlery drawer, breakfast plates and long-stemmed glasses usually don’t fit into the upper rack.
I have experience with both and prefer the cutlery basket. Everyone’s needs are different, so opinions may naturally vary.

IKEA-Experte1 Feb 2015 18:50For the "back," there is only one option: a half-height built-in, for example, on a 40cm (16 inch) cabinet. I did it that way and can only say that it puzzles me why this was not considered during the development of the Metod kitchen.I can only agree with that.

Sektionschef2 Feb 2015 10:55I bought the SX65M042EU. For me, it was a reasonable compromise between price, zeolite drying, and energy consumption. Super fast, super shiny results, and all that other stuff didn’t really interest me—I don’t care if the machine runs for 3 hours or not. I don’t have to stay next to it, and with our 3 kids, we rarely run more than one load per day. Thanks again!
Have you already started using the SX65M042EU?
Are you satisfied with it? Would you recommend it?
Best regards,

Juliette W6 Feb 2015 17:49I’m also interested in the SX65M042EU, as I’m currently planning my kitchen and already have a headache from reading so much in various forums about this dishwasher door.
If I understand correctly, all 86.5 cm (34 inches) high dishwashers with a slide hinge can be used, and the panel can then be attached directly and firmly to the dishwasher door? Is that right?
I don’t like this sliding rail solution with a support piece here at all (thanks for the pictures, Aronito). You have to constantly clean the back of the door, which sticks out in front when opened and surely gets dirty again and again when loading the machine.
In my search, I found the following dishwashers that supposedly have a slide hinge and the right height:
Bosch SBE65N00EU
Bosch SBV68M90EU
Siemens SX76P030EU
Siemens SX76N057EU
Siemens SX878D04PE
Siemens SX76V090EU
Siemens SX65M042EU
Neff GX669 (S52N69X3EU)
Siemens SX778D01TE
Siemens SX78T155EU
Bosch SBE88TD01E
I hope this is all correct.
Now my question: Can an ordinary kitchen fitter install one of these machines without complications and fit an IKEA cabinet door to it (without a sliding mechanism)? Or are there some tricks that need to be explained to the fitter first?
Kind regards

If I understand correctly, all dishwashers that are 865mm (34 inches) high with a variable hinge can be used, and the panel can be attached directly and securely to the dishwasher? Is that right? Yes.
I found the following dishwashers in my search that are said to have a variable hinge and the correct height:
Bosch SBE65N00EU
Bosch SBV68M90EU
Siemens SX76P030EU
Siemens SX76N057EU
Siemens SX878D04PE
Siemens SX76V090EU
Siemens SX65M042EU
Neff GX669 (S52N69X3EU)
Siemens SX778D01TE
Siemens SX78T155EU
Bosch SBE88TD01E
I hope this is correct. Siemens SX65M042EU and others on the list do not have a variable hinge. It’s best to check the technical drawing to see if fronts up to 800mm (31.5 inches) height fit.
Now my question: Can a regular kitchen fitter install one of these machines without complications and fit an IKEA door panel (without a sliding mechanism)? Or do you still need some special tricks that you have to explain to the fitter first?
Best regards What exactly do you mean by a regular kitchen fitter? Anyone who can read and understand the dishwasher installation guide should be able to mount the front panel. Whether all installers from a logistics company can do this is another question. You can only try it and, if necessary, install the panel yourself.
