Hello
Has anyone here already looked into the installation options for dishwasher fronts in the new Metod kitchen system? I have spent some time researching this topic and would like to share my current findings with you:
As I understand it, IKEA now offers the option in Metod to have the dishwasher fronts divided, so they appear as if the dishwasher has multiple drawers. Alternatively, you can install a continuous door as before. This can also be selected in the online planner, which will then display the desired front layout.
Additionally, I found out that Metod requires a special mechanism where the dishwasher fronts slide along rails attached to the dishwasher door. I think it works similarly to the sliding doors on refrigerators.
What isn’t clear to me yet is whether this special sliding mechanism is mandatory with Metod, or if you can still mount the front fixed directly to the dishwasher door as before. Does this have something to do with the different plinth height between Metod and Faktum?
If you want to attach multiple partial fronts to the dishwasher door, you need the Vaglig (20250663) product. This consists of two rails that hold the partial fronts together. But as far as I understand, this does not include the sliding mechanism itself.
For the sliding mechanism, you then need either Resonlig (50248348) or Behjälplig (50242426). The difference between these two seems to be that they fit different dishwasher models (Resonlig for Skinande, Rengöra, and LAGAN; Behjälplig for Hjälpsam). However, I have not yet figured out which one is needed for a non-IKEA dishwasher.
There is also Ersättare (00250664), which appears to be an installation solution for semi-integrated dishwashers. Since IKEA does not offer semi-integrated appliances in their range, Ersättare is probably designed specifically for non-IKEA models that you want to install in Metod. I have also looked at the installation instructions for Ersättare, but some things are still unclear to me:
As I understand it, the lower part of the front must be a partial front with a height of 20cm (8 inches), which is hinged in such a way that it flips open when the dishwasher door is opened. Does this mean that a continuous front is not possible with semi-integrated dishwashers???
Additionally, the instructions state that the upper partial front, also 20cm (8 inches) high, must be cut to size depending on the dishwasher’s trim height. I assume this would only apply to fronts without embossed patterns, because if, for example, I cut a Lidingö front (which has an embossed pattern) in the middle at 20cm (8 inches), I would be cutting through the design?
Since I want to install an existing dishwasher with a semi-integrated front in my new Metod kitchen with Lidingö/Bodbyn fronts, I am currently puzzled about how the installation should actually look.
Since Metod will be available in Austria from April 1st, I will definitely ask IKEA then.
Does anyone already know the answers to my questions?
Best regards

RoiDanton20 Oct 2014 10:19Hi,
I suppose the kitchen should be built at a height of 890mm (35 inches). This would create a 1cm (0.4 inch) gap at the baseboard, but you probably wouldn’t see it unless you’re crawling on the floor. Or am I mistaken?
Best regards

I also hardly believe that such a small gap at the base would be noticeable without looking underneath. However, if it bothers someone a lot or if the gap is larger, you could also use this self-adhesive strip, which IKEA actually intends for the side covering between a tall cabinet and the wall.

IKEA-Experte20 Oct 2014 13:50It would be helpful to know if Fornax has increased the base height to 9 cm (3.5 inches).
I will summarize the findings regarding standard-size dishwashers:
As shown in the installation dimension sketch (in my photo album), the maximum door height for a standard dishwasher like the Bosch SMV68M80EU is 725mm (29 inches).
The minimum distance from the door to the floor must be 90mm (3.5 inches) according to the sketch. Subtracting these 90mm (3.5 inches) from the cabinet height of 880mm (35 inches) results in a difference of 790mm (31 inches) — this would be the maximum allowable door length.
Now, the overhang at the bottom of the door comes into play, which could get stuck on the dishwasher. There is already the "Stefan method" for this (lower the dishwasher as far as possible and let the door overhang at the top, then fill the gap above to stabilize the dishwasher). The key question is whether the door would still extend too far below, which mainly depends on how deep the recessed dishwasher plinth is.
According to the sketch, the dishwasher is at least 815mm (32 inches) high, and the smallest door height might be 665mm (26 inches) (flush-mounted door height), which leads to a calculated dishwasher plinth height of 160mm (6.3 inches). This means that with the maximum allowed door height of 725mm (29 inches), the door would protrude 70mm (2.8 inches) below the flap edge (the calculation fits: 815mm (32 inches) minus 725mm (29 inches) equals 90mm (3.5 inches), which is the minimum allowed distance from the floor to the bottom of the door).
With a cabinet height of 880mm (35 inches) and a door height of 800mm (31 inches), the bottom edge of the door would be 80mm (3.1 inches) above the floor — which is 10mm (0.4 inches) too little.
The issue is how to compensate for this 10mm (0.4 inches) — there must be another solution than raising the entire kitchen!
Perhaps someone with this or a similar BSH dishwasher at home could measure the distance between the plinth front and the bottom edge of the door (dishwasher door, not the IKEA front) when the door is open — that would show us how much room for adjustment is still possible!

Hello,
I have been appointed as the person responsible for the kitchen installation at my company, and I’m completely overwhelmed.
We also want to cover the Bosch SMV68M90EU refrigerator with a 60x80 cm (24x31.5 inches) Grevsta front panel. It should be installed under a countertop at 88 cm (35 inches) height, placed between two base cabinets.
At IKEA, I was told that attaching the 60x80 cm (24x31.5 inches) front panel using the Behjälplig system is possible. However, Bosch informed me that this would definitely not work, as the dishwasher door wouldn’t be able to open.
I saw a simple “yes” to this question here in the forum before, but I’m still wondering how this works? How is it ensured that the dishwasher door can open? I think I haven’t fully understood the BEHJÄLPLIG system yet.
“Stefan’s method” should work as a fallback, right?
Could you please help me? I’m really worried that it either won’t fit together in the end or, although it fits, it won’t open anymore, etc., and I absolutely can’t afford a mistake here.
Oh, and I would like to avoid a hinge-type solution...
I would be very grateful for your help.
Thank you very much and best regards,
Lisa
