I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

My pride and joy is our serviceberry tree (grown as a standard / tree form):

The serviceberry was planted by the landscaper, so I’m just assuming that it’s fine as it is. It was my choice for this flower bed as a replacement for the plum tree, and the landscaper fully agreed, finding the location ideal.
The bamboo is definitely some type of Fargesia, since it grows in clumps. It has black stems, and as far as I know, there is a specific variety with that characteristic. Honestly, we got it cheaply from the landscaper who wanted to get rid of it, and my husband really wanted a bamboo. Win-win situation. Since we planted it in this bed, we didn’t really care about the exact variety. It can grow as tall as it wants, or it may stay small. Either way, it fits perfectly.

For the serviceberry, you can expect about 4m (13 feet) in diameter; we also have some in our garden, but they grow quite slowly.
The Fargesia is probably the Nitida "Black Pearl," with purple or black stems. It requires partial shade to full shade, like most Fargesia species, otherwise the stems curl up like needles. The bamboo needs water throughout the year, including in winter, but is otherwise very low-maintenance.
Best regards,
Sabine

We have partial shade there. Shade in the morning and evening, sun in the afternoon. In winter, there is little sun, which is good for bamboo.
Well, if there is a house on one side, the serviceberry will probably grow more slowly in that direction – but on the other side, it will have free room to grow. The landscape gardener said he will come by for a prune in 2-3 years; before that, it isn’t necessary. Only shoots on the trunk should be removed.
