I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

The metalworker finally came through, and on Thursday, June 4th, all the steel components arrived.

By Friday, we had made significant progress:

Path between wooden house on the right and hedge on the left; dark posts, planter boxes, car in the background.

The steel parts of the privacy fence were installed, providing a somewhat uneven but effective screen.

Modern wooden facade with large glass windows and rectangular metal planter boxes with plants.

The raised garden beds for the terrace (herbs in front, tomatoes at the back) were set up and already filled with soil.

And our large raised bed, which had been waiting to be used for almost two months, was finally installed, allowing us to start landscaping the front garden:

White car parked next to rectangular metal planter boxes with soil and young plants on gravel path.

This was a big step forward, and we’re really happy!

The slope remains like this? No separation from the ground?

That will stay as it is; it’s called pea gravel, meaning very small, rounded stones. They’re laid on a specially prepared base. The edges of the flower beds will be planted with cushion perennials over time, but it will take a while before it looks nice.

However, we don’t always like things to be super precise. We really like it this way, and the most important thing for us was that we can walk on it comfortably barefoot, which is really pleasant!

The driveway to the trailer parking space (there will be a wooden deck above it later) has a special mix of perennial granules with various types of thyme. So hopefully, something will grow there as well.

On Monday, the wooden parts of the privacy fence arrived, and construction of the fence along the street began. Since the day before yesterday, it has been finished, and we have really fallen in love with our front garden:

The privacy wall is finally done as well, and we were able to plant the bed there too:

Now, the wooden deck is still missing, which will then connect to the already existing balcony, along with the stairs leading from this deck down into the front garden. The lighting still needs to be installed as well (that’s why all the cables are still lying around). A few spotlights in the flower beds and some outdoor power outlets are planned.

In addition, the beds prepared for the perennial mix (in the pictures, the areas with the darker granulate and the bed at the end of the privacy fence) still need to be planted with the appropriate perennial mix. Our trusted landscaping professional offers mixtures that are very well coordinated, always bloom throughout the seasons, are very bee-friendly, visually attractive, and low-maintenance (just made for us! *g*)

We hope our house builder will soon have time to complete the remaining terrace so we can gradually wrap up this project.

The oven is expected next week, and then we have the shed behind the carport where we still want to finish some things. But once the terrace is finally done, the summer and its celebrations can begin!

Does the forum have magical powers?

Yesterday, the timber carpenter came to take measurements for the terrace – work is scheduled to start on Monday.

Wow @Climbee, this is really well designed. I love terrace gardens or small gardens in backyards and such, often tiered... and your angles and planned asymmetry of the beds and areas are exactly what I find great. It didn’t work out like that in my garden. The necessary fence wall next to the neighbor also looks good. Then again, the playful contrast with the picket fence... nice!
