I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

I am currently involved in a project with large stones. The stones shown will be equipped with speakers and placed at the Loreley. I would find a roughly 8-ton graywacke boulder great for the left corner of the property. Does a boundary stone like this, admittedly oversized, have a height restriction towards the street similar to a fence? I will check with the building authority.

If you have names like Napoleon, Gustav-Adolf, Bismarck, etc., engraved with the year, have the stone designed and installed, you’ll be recorded in the golden book and have your stone 😎 , someone important must have passed by here at some point anyway.

I find the shape too artificial. Maybe a boulder would be better?

Good idea, but that’s not my goal. I just find these large stones simply beautiful and feel a local connection to them. As for transport – it’s definitely not easy, but we manage the 4 km (2.5 miles) from the quarry to us. Affordable: no need for a drainage foundation or anything fancy 😎.

I can understand that about the shape. If you look closely at the stone from the quarry, you can see ancient fossils all over its surface. We live on such a greywacke rock and would basically be bringing a piece of it out here, even if it’s taken from a few kilometers away. So there really is a special connection to this type of stone.

So much for the "soil classification." Here is a somewhat weathered section of the "excavation." The large piece is made from the same material.

Greywacke is great; our raised garden beds and stepping stones in the garden are made from it. The many fossil imprints especially make it fascinating.
