Hello everyone!

As some users have requested before, I’m now starting a new thread with the current planning of our detached house, which is about to be finalized.

These are the preliminary drawings for the building permit / planning permission application, and I have one last chance to review them and point out any issues.

It still seems to me that there is less than 1.20m (4 feet) of space between the two wardrobes in the dressing room. Or am I seeing this wrong? Apparently, the rooms on the left and right were overlooked and not adjusted accordingly.

Two Velux ceiling spotlights are still planned to illuminate the upper floor hallway.

In the basement, on the right side in the upper room, a window similar to the one on the left basement side is an option.

We still haven’t decided on the T30 fire-rated door to the garage, even though it is shown in the plans. Most likely, for safety reasons and the limited use of the kitchen at the other end of the house, we will eventually forgo it.

User 11ant pointed out that the right window in child’s room 2 is suboptimally positioned. However, this could still be changed after submitting the building permit / planning permission application. Our architect thinks moving the window to the left would negatively affect the house’s exterior appearance. We’ll have to see about that.

To be honest, I find the prices for front doors even more outrageous..

And from a visual standpoint, a door costing $1000 would do just fine there....

Well, I would like to see that door.

I also think front doors are quite expensive, but since they are one of the central elements of a house facade, I believe a certain investment is justified.

For a secondary entrance door, especially one located behind a garage door, the price is quite steep. But that’s a personal choice—I wouldn’t even get into that situation because I’m not a big fan of secondary entrances.

Whether to choose RC2 security class or not doesn’t necessarily have to be based on rational reasons. If it increases the subjective feeling of safety, it can definitely make sense.

Whether the extra cost for RC2N, RC2, or even a higher security level for windows is reasonable could certainly be discussed as well. I would actually be interested to know what others have chosen, but I don’t want to hijack the thread [emoji6]

I wanted to add that the exact price for the door without extras was €2,590. So the extras, like the alarm system preparation, are not the main cost driver.

This is a standard T30 door with RC2 security rating, which is fire and smoke resistant.

I would prefer not to choose it. My wife wants to have it. We will clarify this today.

Hotzenplotz, lure her with something... mine loves going on little trips to the sun.

Even your wife won’t be able to get wet (or attacked by a bear) when going “outside around” between the gate and the door. You really have to be in love with this small door; objectively, its redundancy is almost painful.

I have now canceled the door order. All in all, I believe it simply isn’t worth the money. We will instead use the budget for landscaping the garden.

That’s definitely one area where money can be buried most decoratively.
