Dear Home Building Forum,
my partner and I strongly disagree about the layout of our walk-in closet. The original floor plan does not include a door to the bathroom. My partner really wants to add an entrance to the bathroom, but I am concerned that this will make it difficult to fit enough wardrobes. What are your opinions? Should we install the door or leave it out?
Best regards, Carolin

1. A bathroom with two doors is inconvenient because you can't lock it.
2. THIS is a walk-through room and unusable as a dressing room.

You are absolutely right. The second bathroom door is pointless and a waste of space. Don’t listen to your husband! They usually have no idea about clothes and how much space they need. 😉

Hello everyone, thank you all for your feedback.
Here is my idea for setting up the walk-in closet without a door. With the door to the bathroom, a wardrobe up to 1.20m (4 feet) wide would fit in the corner at most.
We are also considering moving the wall towards the hallway slightly, as the hallway seems quite large to us. This would also make the walk-in closet a bit bigger.

Bird’s-eye view of a floor plan: Yellow highlighted living area with TV, sofa, and desk.

Upper floor plan: Guest room, 2 children’s rooms, bedroom, dressing room, bathroom, hallway, balcony.

Top view floor plan of an apartment with yellow border, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room.

Is that supposed to be a stairwell?

Broken-up cabinets... is the space sufficient for two people? Seasonal clothing, etc... what about bedding, towels, and so on?

To me, that would be too busy of a passage area.

It looks like a storage room, which is really a shame given the amount of space.
I would remove the door to the hallway. That way, you would have a long wall for cabinets. Where does the hallway get its light from?

Unfortunately, the design app didn’t represent the staircase correctly. Bedding and towels could be stored in a dresser in the bedroom.
