Hello everyone,

Tomorrow, the upper floor will likely start being built. We’re not completely sure about one detail yet. It’s about the door to the upstairs bathroom. Is it better for the door to open toward the shower or toward the wall (where a bathroom cabinet will be placed)?

Unfavorable, as there is a hallway in front of it.
To be honest, we tend to prefer opening towards the shower because of the path to the sink. You would never want to use the shower with the door fully or partially open.

Are you always this hasty in the bathroom? :P – you can easily plan to use stoppers, buffers, or similar here 🙂

Not me. But from what I remember, this will be a children's bathroom 🙂

Except for the bathtub, which we also want to use occasionally, you are right, Yvonne.
A door stopper is probably advisable on both sides (there would be a cabinet on the other side). We don't need to decide on the door swing direction itself—only whether it should be 50 cm (20 inches) or 40 cm (16 inches) from the wall farthest from the shower.

Hinge on the wall side (i.e., right-hand hinge according to DIN). Otherwise, the stopper will always be in front of the shower door.
Even when you enter the bathroom to wash your hands, you will probably always open the door almost completely—no matter which direction the hinge is on.

We have now commissioned the version with the 40 cm (16 inches) wall thickness ;-)
Thanks for your opinions and tips!

But why do you have to decide on that now?
