I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

@Pinkiponk Your husband did a great job. It looks very harmonious! I want to say exactly the same: Your husband did a good job.
I also had used the same type of paving in the “old house” and laid it myself. However, ours was multicolored with red tones mixed with yellow (autumn leaf colors).

The brown "spots" on the paving are still from the rain. Unfortunately, these are thick concrete pavers. So white water stains from efflorescence are definitely to be expected later on. But let’s wait and see.
A wonderful year lies ahead for you.

That’s right, and I’d also really like shutters, so the house looks more "nostalgic" rather than "modern."You could even "copy" that idea when it comes to the garage-house combo, @Steffi33. Pinkiponk schrieb:
If we ever build a new house, that’s actually one of the things I’m most looking forward to: exchanging ideas with you all.No one needs to hold back here just because their house is already finished. Especially in this thread and the house photo thread, most people are way beyond just having a move-in-ready house. Pinkiponk schrieb:
Usually, I find car parking spaces unattractive. But maybe that’s because of the cars parked there. The cars aren’t really supposed to be in front anyway.https://www.instagram.com/11antgmxde/

About the Mexican honey tomato: One of my favorite tomatoes for snacking. The size is perfect, already nicely sweet, and the yield is quite good. I have been growing this variety for three years now – last year was the weakest here, but I was on vacation and the watering suffered a bit, which is not good in the heat.

Pinkiponk, many of my tomatoes were a bit tasteless last year. No comparison to ’22. Feel free to try it for a year or two.
I’ll be growing around 20 varieties again. Could the weather be the reason for tasteless tomatoes? Twenty varieties is impressive, great.

Unfortunately, they are thick concrete pavers. So white water stains from efflorescence are guaranteed later. We’re actually expecting that too, but I thought that the efflorescence might eventually fade away. Natural stone is really beautiful, but would have other disadvantages for us. My husband and I aren’t aiming for something permanent anyway. Almost acceptable is good enough for us and we can still enjoy it. We have made some mistakes and wrong decisions but live well with them. And as mentioned, I’m already looking for a new plot of land. Maybe even by the Baltic Sea. ;-) Then I would probably have to make some cultural compromises compared to now.

Regarding the garage-house ensemble, you could "copy" @Steffi33. Thanks for the tip. I will take another look at that. So far, I was thinking of planting tall Italian cypress trees in a semicircular arc to create a visual separation between the house and the garage forecourt.

No one has to keep a low profile here just because the house is already finished. Especially here and in the house photos thread, mostly people who have long passed the stage of bare move-in readiness gather. I just can’t think of much useful to contribute. I’m already happy that I was allowed to post my non-garden photo here in this forum. ;-)

The cars don’t belong in front either. True. I just think parking spaces rarely look good, whether there’s a car there or not. Of course, there are exceptions.

For now, I need to start reading up on what to do with the seeds that will arrive in the next few days. Just sticking them in the soil probably isn’t the right approach.

For snacking, I like Ernteglück and Dattelwein. If I become a successful tomato grower, I’ll try both of those. For now, I just have 10 seeds for the Mexican honey tomato, my little babies.

They probably prefer something square, rectangular, and practical.Well, what do you mean by “feel like”? Professionals earn their living through hard work… and as a tradesperson, you know when it’s no longer worthwhile to prepare a quote, since homeowners are usually financially stretched at the end of the construction phase and just starting their landscaping.
