With the neighbor’s permission, you could at least apply the darker stain or finish to the wooden privacy screen on your side, which would help to neutralize it somewhat.

I can join in on the topic of green roofs here. We also installed one ourselves using a roll-out sedum mat similar to turf. I really enjoy having the green roof; up there, real bumblebee parties take place.

It looks really great. The combination of wood, greenery, and black works wonderfully.
