I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

Then I’ll share my thoughts on why I’m against a green roof, from my point of view (a male perspective):
Costs and possibly (I’m not entirely sure) that I might not be able to install photovoltaic panels on it (Maybe there is a combination of photovoltaic panels and plants that works well for both?).
From a purely visual perspective and for bees and such, I do find a green roof quite attractive.

so that this thread can slowly wind down for the winter break:
My record harvest from today ;-)

By the way, with Firefox and absolutely no ad blocker, I can’t access the forum at all anymore. Other browsers are constantly flooded with incoming ad pop-ups. This just isn’t enjoyable anymore and, in my opinion, counterproductive. But what do I know...

Pinkiponk27 Jan 2024 11:10I’m sharing some photos of our garden again, although it’s not really a garden yet. This year we’re starting the landscaping. The first step will be the delivery of the cistern, which will happen as soon as the weather permits. Our garden planning was delayed because we decided at short notice to drill a well, which took place in November instead of July as originally planned. We will also be creating a natural swimming pond.
Yesterday, I ordered seeds of the "Mexican Honey Tomato," botanical name "Solanum lycopersicum." Does anyone know it? It is said to be the sweetest tomato in the world. If anyone has experience with it, I would appreciate your feedback.
About the photos:
- We realized that in our case it would have been better to buy the paving stones for the outdoor area first, and then decide on the facade color. Now they don’t quite match, but we will get used to it. I assumed there would be a huge variety of paving stones, but that only applies if you stick to the gray/anthracite/white color range. We didn’t want to travel abroad just for paving stones.
- As everyone knows, we were informed on the evening before the sample selection that our house would be more expensive by a high five-figure amount, which caused us to panic and remove many features. These are now missing on the exterior and we will retrofit them later (decorative trim, shutters, etc.).
- The garage will still be painted in the color of the house.
- We couldn’t find a professional who would design the paths and driveway with semi-circular shapes as we wanted, so my husband did it himself. He also cut most of the stones by hand.
- We would have liked the trellises to the right of the parking space to be as tall as the garage to block the neighbors’ buildings, but they did not permit that. The trellises are planted with "Ivy Goldchild, Hedera helix Goldchild." I hope it survives the winter, as it was freshly planted.
Also, I feel like building another house—closer to Leipzig, smaller, and accessible for seniors or people with disabilities, or maybe directly by a lake. We’ll see.
