I thought a garden chat and photo thread would be a good idea.
This way, we have a space to share current pictures and discuss dandelions and other plants.

Thanks for the great tip.

Unfortunately, we only have about 15cm (6 inches) of topsoil, with quite heavy clayey fill underneath (better not ask about the house-building drama). I’m thinking of digging out the size of the pot plus 20cm (8 inches) on each side and filling it with good topsoil. Or should it be more?
A Japanese maple requires specific conditions regarding moisture and pH level. For clay soil, it’s advisable to add sand. Additionally, there are specialized soils formulated to meet these requirements. It’s definitely worth using a bag of that soil to fill the planting hole.

I would replace a bit more.

I would also replace more, as I don’t think it’s good for it to stand with its feet constantly damp.

Then you will basically have to deal with waterlogging. So use a bit more material below, possibly some gravel first as drainage.
It will work out; many plants are more adaptable to their soil than their owners are with their four walls 😉

Today we had a visitor. Poor guy. He must have gotten completely lost. A brief stay in the sand mold, and then he was nudged away under the fence.
