Good evening everyone

I’m starting a small collection thread here for photos and progress updates on our second building project.
We’ve already moved to the Palatinate region to be closer to the construction site. Now we’re watching eagerly and happily as our (hopefully final) dream home takes shape near family.

One big challenge still ahead of us is the facade design. I really love the Nordic style with brickwork and mullioned windows. That won’t be possible here for two reasons: firstly, no one here can do bricklaying, and secondly, it would stand out too much. We will be going with a rendered facade. How to design the colors of the facade and windows to still create some country house / cottage charm is currently still a work in progress mentally.

Otherwise, I’m sharing our plans here and how it will eventually be built.
The support pillar marked near the kitchen island could be removed for a small extra cost, so that will be gone.

The room for “garden equipment” under the garage will get a partition wall for structural reasons.
It won’t be fully finished living space like in the house, but underfloor heating will be installed, along with a lockable door and a window. It’s meant to store garden tools but also some of the building services equipment, since the utility room (HAR) is quite small, and maybe be used as a party room.

We had three construction companies in the final selection. In the end, we chose the “doer” – a builder recommended to us here by friends and family. No website, no smartphone, but he is on site every day himself working in overalls. He has a very good reputation in this area and now rarely builds single-family homes. We were a bit lucky through personal connections and a very friendly initial phone call to get our foot in the door. So far we are very satisfied with this choice.

I think both are valid; everyone just does what they prefer. As Marie Kondo would say: What sparks joy for you! 😀

Have I already mentioned that I like this kind of green? Yes, I have 🙂

Interestingly, about a week ago someone called a green kitchen "hideous" in the neighboring thread by @klaf333, where they presented the blue house... I just thought, “finally, a kitchen far away from white, black, and that awful concrete look.”

Sure, taste is subjective, but not mass-produced monotony 😉

Exactly. And some people would only get half a car for the most expensive kitchen.

We would only get a set of all-season tires for our new kitchen. ;-) That’s fine with me; I still like our kitchen. 🙂

We could barely get a set of all-season tires for our new kitchen right now. ;-) For me, it’s fine that way—I still like our kitchen. 🙂
How come? Used / second-hand, or where can you get such an affordable kitchen?

For our temporary rental apartment, we already bought an IKEA kitchen—including IKEA electric appliances (the latter was purely for convenience)—with the house in mind. Now, upon moving in, we’ve added a new display cabinet and a new sideboard. We already had the table and chairs. However, we are just a two-person household.
My best friend, who has children and often grandchildren visiting, said, "You call those few cabinets a kitchen?" 🙂
Also, our taste is rather traditional country style, so modern high-gloss, high-tech kitchens are not an option for us, even though I appreciate their beauty and enjoy looking at them. In my opinion, your kitchen will be a successful combination, perfectly done. 🙂

We went to the construction site briefly yesterday to take some measurements. This is the current status. Progress is being made.
The floor slab is scheduled to be installed on Monday, followed by masonry work. By the end of October, the roof framing should be in place. The plan is to have the house weather-tight before winter. 🙂
The current challenge is finalizing the kitchen design. I would like to order it soon to avoid too many delivery issues. Does Miele have similar delivery problems as Siemens/Bosch?
Otherwise, we considered recalculating the kitchen in green. However, that would add 4,000€ (about $4,300) extra (it’s a Schüller), and I don’t think it’s worth it for me.

Partially completed construction site with white masonry, supports, building supplies, and porta-toilet.
