Hello,
I have a question. I have an old wall cabinet that was originally mounted vertically on the wall with the corresponding door.
Now here’s the tricky part: I want to hang the cabinet horizontally on the wall and have bought the Utrusta hinges 602.046.50 for this. Unfortunately, the cabinet does not have the pre-drilled holes for attaching the hinges, and I have no idea how to find the correct position for the hinges. Before I start measuring with a tape measure in the kitchen section, I wanted to ask here first. It’s important to note that this is not about the position on the door—I already have the template that was supplied for that. It’s about the position of the hinges with the lift arm.
Thanks and best regards

planlos_343016 Sep 2015 10:59Hi,
it is a vertical Faktum wall cabinet, a standard Faktum wall cabinet, for example 90cm (35 inches) high by 40cm (16 inches) wide. I want to hang it horizontally on the wall, 90cm (35 inches) wide and 40cm (16 inches) high. Since I already have the cabinet body and don’t want to buy a new one, I bought the hinges shown in the picture individually. A vertical cabinet will become a horizontal cabinet. For this, I need the exact position where the hinges must be attached to the cabinet.
Best regards

IKEA-Experte16 Sep 2015 11:10I realize I didn’t properly read the first post. Oops:
I already mentioned the dimensions for the holes above. You only need to drill about 3 mm (1/8 inch) deep, since only the hinge nipples go into those holes, and the screws are simply screwed directly into the wood.
When the cabinet is lying horizontally, the bottom is held only by the four dowels of the connecting fittings. With regular assembly, the wooden dowels provide additional support. This issue can be solved by disassembling the cabinet again and gluing in the wooden dowels.
The linked hinge is for a maximum door size of 80 x 40 cm (31½ x 15¾ inches); for a 92 cm (36¼ inch) door, you need:
Utrusta
Hinge layout for horizontal door, black
You can check the Blum catalog to see how much weight AVENTOS HK and HK-S supports. They might be somewhat different, but it will give you a reference point.

planlos_343016 Sep 2015 11:17Hey,
ok thanks, so I’ll drill a small hole 5cm (2 inches) from the top and 5cm (2 inches) from the side to insert the hinge nipple there. Let’s see if it fits.
Thanks

IKEA-Experte16 Sep 2015 11:25Not quite.
From the front edge 52 mm (2 inches).
The first hole 5 cm (2 inches) from the top, so measured inside 50 mm (2 inches) - 18 mm (0.7 inches) = 32 mm (1.3 inches)

uhm, do you think that could happen? I wanted to put glasses in there... could it happen because of the different force distribution? I can’t really imagine that.
...
Well, take a look at the sketch. In the correct position, the top and bottom panels are between the side walls, each secured on both sides with two cam locks and wooden dowels. If you rotate the system by 90°, usually only the cam lock holds the load, and the cam lock’s thread shouldn’t be longer than about 5–8 mm (0.2–0.3 inches).
So depending on the load, the force acts either along the fastener (tensile force), which is basically just a wood thread in particle board, or at a 90° angle in the correct position, which means shear forces.
If the glasses aren’t an entire army of large Maßkrüge from Oktoberfest, it should be fine. I wouldn’t put grandma’s 24-piece fine china set in there.
