Hello

I had originally planned a Faktum kitchen, but unfortunately our house construction has been delayed, and it’s quite possible that the new Metod kitchen will already be available at Ikea when we buy the kitchen.
However, I have already purchased the countertop (Akerby) for the kitchen from the clearance section, which was a good opportunity at half price.
Now I am wondering if I could possibly use this Faktum countertop together with Metod base cabinets?
The Faktum countertop is 62cm (24.4 inches) deep, Faktum base cabinets should be 58cm (22.8 inches) deep, resulting in a difference of 4cm (1.6 inches).
The Metod base cabinets should be 60cm (23.6 inches) deep, and Metod countertops have a depth of 63.5cm (25 inches), which results in a difference of 3.5cm (1.4 inches).
If I use the Faktum countertop with Metod base cabinets, the difference would be 62 - 60 = 2cm (0.8 inches).
Would that still be acceptable, or is this overlap too small?

Since you already have the countertop, you can place it on the cabinets and then decide if you are satisfied with it without any overhang. Alternatively, you can screw a wooden strip to the back of the countertop and then cover it with the wall trim. If you’re not happy with that, you can simply buy a deeper countertop later. Whether the change in Slovenia will happen simultaneously with Austria is still uncertain.

With Metod, you will probably need to adjust your plans a bit, as there won’t be cabinets that are 30cm (12 inches) or 50cm (20 inches) wide.

Hello,
With Metod, you will probably need to revise your plans a bit since there won’t be cabinets 30 cm and 50 cm wide.

In my opinion, this is a real mistake by the developers of Metod. The height measurements are better than with Faktum, and having a 20 cm (8 inches) wide cabinet now is an advantage, as previously the smallest cabinet was 30 cm (12 inches).
But to forgo making the width measurements more flexible, and instead only offer planning in 20 cm (8 inches) increments, is completely incomprehensible to me.
Even Faktum could only be planned in 10 cm (4 inches) increments due to 30 and 50 cm (12 and 20 inches) cabinets, which was already a disadvantage compared to kitchen studios where 15 and 45 cm (6 and 18 inches) cabinets allow for a 5 cm (2 inches) increment.
I am curious to see the sales figures of Metod in Germany.
Actually, I planned a Faktum kitchen, but unfortunately our house construction is delayed, and it’s quite possible that by the time we buy the kitchen, Ikea will already have the new Metod kitchen.

So, in conclusion: If the delay still allows for so much planning flexibility, keep in mind that if you choose Metod, the walls of your new kitchen will need to be divisible by 20 cm (8 inches).

Don’t hold me to this, but I’ve seen Metod in Norway in person, though only as a tourist without any kitchen planning intentions.

In my opinion and based on my recollection, the cabinet dimensions are the same. The extra 1.5 cm (0.6 inches) comes from the mounting rails, so there are three options.

1. New countertop
2. The cabinet body can still be placed directly against the wall, though it’s tricky because the base cabinets only have legs at the front now
3. Shorten the mounting rail for each cabinet so that it fits between the cabinet side panels—this is fiddly work, but if I needed a kitchen, I’d probably do it this way

Yeah, the 20 cm (8 inch) horizontal grid is inconvenient; maybe it will be improved since I don’t want a 19.8 cm (7.8 inch) filler piece.

Thank you!
I have the information that the Metod carcasses are now 60cm (24 inches) deep instead of 58cm (23 inches). I didn't know they have a hanging rail at the back instead of legs. Whether shortening the rail would work mainly depends on how much space there is between the back panel of the base cabinet and the room wall. However, the idea is very good! Do you still roughly remember how big the gap behind the back panel was?
