So, I'm starting a new topic here to avoid overloading the house pictures thread.

I find the sliding doors for ovens quite interesting – but do they really offer any added value? I was also surprised to read that ovens now seem to be adopting a feature I dislike in microwaves: instead of setting temperature and possibly time, you input the "dimensions" of the food?! What is that supposed to achieve?! Personally, I think it’s terrible.

By the way, five years ago we followed the hype and bought a built-in steam oven from Neff. It does what it’s supposed to... but I can and usually do the same on the stove. I just lack routine with the appliance. With the water pot method, I know exactly what I’m doing... it feels like we wasted money—even though the potatoes taste very good...

Well, everyone has their kitchen tools, and some are used more or less than others. Most appliances definitely have their purpose. I could also manage well with a blender, stand mixer, steam cooker, and pressure cooker.

With the TM, you still need a frying pan or an oven, since, for example, the roulades need to be seared at the beginning to develop the roasted flavors.

Built-in steam oven
It does what it’s supposed to... but I tend to use the stovetop more for that. I just lack the routine with the appliance. With the water bath, I know exactly how it works... it kind of feels like we wasted money – even though the potatoes taste really good...

Consider investing a few more dollars in a steam cooking cookbook (or get one as a gift) – or did yours not come with any recipes? It’s worth it. Another advantage of the steam oven is that you don’t need to watch it since nothing can boil over.
Open door, put in sliced cured pork, close door
Open door, add potatoes, close door
Open door, add carrots, close door
Open door – everything on the plate: delicious
Total time around 20 minutes.

I’m not trying to advertise the appliance, and I don’t use all its features myself. I just want to take away the feeling of wasted money.

@Müllerin thank you
Sometimes I watch YouTube, recently about the asparagus story combined with potatoes... now I’ve forgotten again what goes in first.
I used to love cookbooks... yes, maybe that would be a way to get some basic knowledge into my head besides all the improvisation.

But wait: you were the one who despised cooking?!?

Just to be clear: preparing food at the push of a button is out of the question for me.

aha...
"Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No. 1337/2013 of 13 December 2013 laying down implementing provisions for Regulation (EU) No. 1169/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the indication of the country of origin or place of provenance of fresh, chilled, or frozen pork, sheep, goat, and poultry meat"

and now you...

and now I will reveal that the original claim by dertill was of course ridiculous and honestly amused me that you seemed to take it seriously. I just pushed it further, but now it's over, otherwise you might end up indignantly traveling to Brussels.

This is what will happen in the future on our great gas grill (not a Weber grill)

Exactly. From Napoleon – a great grill. We have the Rogue model, which can easily fit a big bird on it! And with a grill like this, you can maintain the temperature very well. Provided, of course, there’s enough gas.

We’re about to put some spare ribs on it. Yum yum.
