So, I'm starting a new topic here to avoid overloading the house pictures thread.

I find the sliding doors for ovens quite interesting – but do they really offer any added value? I was also surprised to read that ovens now seem to be adopting a feature I dislike in microwaves: instead of setting temperature and possibly time, you input the "dimensions" of the food?! What is that supposed to achieve?! Personally, I think it’s terrible.

I can definitely imagine that Aldi’s thermal cooker is quite suitable for certain uses. Especially when you basically only need to heat something at a specific temperature while stirring at the same time. For that, you don’t need to pay well over 1,000 euros; it’s not rocket science. If I ever really need that exact functionality, I would only go for an affordable device.

Of course, the Thermomix is also a status symbol for which people are willing to spend more—just like the iPhone is for me. My husband switched last year because his iPhone was practically unusable one or two years after purchase (calendar synchronization stopped working, which is the only feature he really uses regularly). The iPad was also discarded, and a cheap Samsung was purchased instead. Since then, there have been no problems browsing the internet, checking emails, or displaying the keyboard... and the storage can also be easily expanded without having to pay a high price.

What is your opinion on the Miele Dialog Oven? Is it really necessary? Or just overpriced at a modest 8000€?

Necessary? Really necessary? In the kitchen, all you really need is a wood stove and ideally a well nearby ^^. You don’t need a kettle, coffee machine, microwave, bread slicer, blender, and so on.
But the Miele gadget is definitely a great invention for high-gloss show kitchens. It’s there so guests, who are welcomed with appetizers at the kitchen island, can express envious admiration. No one really needs it; maybe some will use it. For that price, not everyone will want or be able to have it, which makes it a great way to stand out. The market surely exists for that.

Once again, I’m looking forward to our new kitchen. It will be nice and large and made for cooking and baking. One where it doesn’t matter if a cabinet door gets scratched or a scratch appears on the ceramic cooktop. One that doesn’t have to be polished every day to keep glossy surfaces show-ready. That’s easy to clean and where you don’t have to worry about breaking some delicate mechanism. A kitchen where you can really let loose. Simply a kitchen that won’t please everyone and won’t fit everyone – but just right for us.

Life without a Dialog Oven is possible, but pointless. Seriously though: this is more for people with an 80,000 euro kitchen island.

Well, everyone, take a look at what microwaves or steam ovens cost when they were first introduced to the market. This device is brand new in terms of development and cooking principle (you could say it uses “topographic cooking”). In principle, it’s quite interesting and will probably become more affordable over time. Do you really need it? About as much as you need an induction cooktop or a microwave, yet you’ll find both in almost every kitchen. I’m curious to see how things will look in 10 years...

A microwave oven is definitely essential!

An induction cooktop is an absolute must (alternatively gas); never go back to a regular ceramic hob. The time saved is simply priceless.
