Bought a house, estimated the renovation budget plus 10-15% for inevitable extras, and we set aside 5000 EUR for the kitchen!!!!

That’s how it started... at first, I was in a bit of shock, but we still had time. First step: remove all the walls for a new layout—I need space...

Let’s start with the (according to the agent) move-in ready property. The small kitchen, just under 8 square meters (about 86 square feet), had its 1970s pass-through removed. The wall including the kitchen door is gone! The wall next to the cellar stairs is gone too! Actually, the entire slanted wall, nearly 7 meters (23 feet) high, removed completely...

The window had to go as well since we needed a different working height than the standard 90 cm (35 inches). New screed installed, we switched to underfloor heating, all electrical wiring and water pipes are new.

After almost six months, the realization slowly sank in: the kitchen budget will not exceed 5000 EUR, so we had to look for a used kitchen... something special, but very cheap.

The search criteria: within a 100 km (62 miles) radius, up to 1000 EUR, because I still want new appliances.

I’m usually open to unconventional ideas, but when it comes to countertops: there’s a reason why this has proven effective.
I completely agree with you. Off topic, I feel the same about bedside tables. Having bedside tables seems so outdated and old-fashioned, but they are practical and useful.

Our kitchen was finally completely finished this weekend. We assembled all 177 IKEA packages ourselves.

Bright kitchen with white island, glass display cabinets, wooden countertop, window view, wine rack.

Modern kitchen with white cabinets, wooden countertops, island, and oven; wooden floor.

White kitchen cabinets with built-in oven and microwave, wooden countertops, coffee machine.

White kitchen with sink under window, wooden countertop, and wall-mounted bottle rack.

Oh my God, it’s absolutely beautiful.
It almost makes me feel a bit regretful that we ultimately decided against Ikea. We also had a design in their planner with exactly these cabinet fronts, the sink, and a countertop of a similar color.

For us, the IKEA kitchen offered the best value for money. We also had time for the installation. We didn't expect it to take that long (about 8 days), but it was neither complicated nor exhausting.

However, 18 cabinets with interiors simply take time, and we would choose an IKEA kitchen again anytime. Especially because of the price transparency (which we missed in kitchen showrooms).

Regarding appliances, we chose the stove and refrigerator from IKEA. The oven and microwave are from Neff, and the dishwasher is from Siemens.

That is exactly why we chose IKEA and will do so again soon, after our friend stopped selling Bax kitchens years ago.
I hardly know any area where prices are so pushed and distorted to be disguised as in the kitchen sector. It’s no coincidence that kitchen stores have sprung up everywhere in recent years and furniture stores now occupy entire floors with them.
Our acquaintance himself says that IKEA has always been active, especially in design, even though the kitchen furniture is limited in terms of shapes and dimensions somewhere; of course, it is limited elsewhere as well. But it is precisely this transparency and now even the experience developed in assembling the units that is really enjoyable.
As you can see in your case, it still requires some imagination and taste, but combined with other products you can create a wonderful kitchen.
