Bought a house, estimated the renovation budget plus 10-15% for inevitable extras, and we set aside 5000 EUR for the kitchen!!!!

That’s how it started... at first, I was in a bit of shock, but we still had time. First step: remove all the walls for a new layout—I need space...

Let’s start with the (according to the agent) move-in ready property. The small kitchen, just under 8 square meters (about 86 square feet), had its 1970s pass-through removed. The wall including the kitchen door is gone! The wall next to the cellar stairs is gone too! Actually, the entire slanted wall, nearly 7 meters (23 feet) high, removed completely...

The window had to go as well since we needed a different working height than the standard 90 cm (35 inches). New screed installed, we switched to underfloor heating, all electrical wiring and water pipes are new.

After almost six months, the realization slowly sank in: the kitchen budget will not exceed 5000 EUR, so we had to look for a used kitchen... something special, but very cheap.

The search criteria: within a 100 km (62 miles) radius, up to 1000 EUR, because I still want new appliances.

Yes, if we hadn’t ended up with two identical kitchens, we would have had to make changes to the plan. However, it would have involved repainting since the cabinet fronts have a sort of textured, uneven surface, which means no laminate would have adhered properly. If you look closely, you can see slight color differences here and there because the kitchens were positioned differently in the light. But, although I usually care about these things, I don’t have very high expectations for this kitchen. I think it would be different if it had been a new kitchen and we had spent 20,000 or more on it. As it is, it is what it is, and I’m happy. Tomtom is right—the refrigerator door hangs slightly lower, probably due to loading it? It just needs to be adjusted again.

I still really like the yellow color! Many people are bold with the exterior facade and paint it pink, yellow, or something else, but when it comes to the kitchen, they choose white. It has to please you, and clearly it does!

That's true, now that you mention it regarding the exterior walls, you are right!

The yellow is great!
I like these kitchens from the 60s/70s.
We also chose our (white) kitchen to match that style: handleless Nolte cabinets, but with consistent 60s dimensions.

Well, where you say it... I probably would have combined it with dark wood, so a dark countertop and also adjusted the wall colors accordingly.

Sieht auf den ersten blick super aus, aber beim 2 sind alle Fronten krumm und schief und nicht bündig geschlossen?

That can be fixed.
But I also think the photographic perspective exaggerates the flaws more than they actually are.
By the way, I often notice that with Ikea: the differences just keep growing.

Dark wood was not an option. We had also considered oak since we are using it as an alternative flooring in the living room and children's rooms, as well as for the platform for the bathtub (because the two floorings together create a great effect). However, that was too rustic for me; I prefer a clean, minimalist, almost sterile look. My wish was a solid surface countertop with an integrated sink, paired with a simple white faucet (but that would have completely exceeded the budget and made it look more like a medical office).

Colored walls—yes, that might be an option. I’ll think about it... thanks.

Yes, you can still do that later. However, for now, I would only go with the floor color: light or medium gray, and one accent wall in dark gray (not anthracite).

By the way, where did you hide your refrigerator? I would have some issues on the lower level because I prefer to have everything at eye level when standing.
