ᐅ We are gathering ideas for floor plans – still at the very beginning of the process.

Hello everyone,
we are currently brainstorming ideas, drawing floor plans back and forth, and so on... basically at the very beginning.
I’m very curious about what unusual features you have incorporated into your homes. Any special elements, gadgets, functions, custom furniture, appliances, etc., where you thought, "I have to have this, no matter what."
I’m asking because over the weekend, I randomly came up with an idea where I exactly had that thought (I have to have it). I had never seen anything like it before, but when I started searching online, I quickly realized that such things already exist – honestly, I would have been surprised if I hadn’t found anything. Over the weekend, we visited an indoor playground with giant trampolines. Our floor plan includes a fairly large open space near the entrance, and I thought about putting a trampoline there. But I quickly dismissed the idea because jumping would make the ceiling feel too close. Then I remembered those safety nets often seen on construction sites, which can also be used as huge hammocks. I think that’s very cool, and if you search for "hammock net indoors," you’ll find some pictures.
I think there are so many cool things like this already out there, but you just don't think of them.
I’m excited to hear what you have incorporated into your homes.
If you want, feel free to upload 1-2 pictures.
Thanks and best regards,
sebisanu

She said pretty much what Alex85 wrote above, that these days most decorations usually use LEDs and batteries anyway. I don’t really find the boxes in the reveal to be much of an eye-catcher.
My wife always thinks those LED battery-operated things are too dim... but we still have quite a lot of them, since we tend to decorate rather extensively.
The problem is, I usually need about 20-25 batteries, which I then have to remove after Christmas (to prevent leakage). As a result, I always end up with a bunch of partially used batteries lying around.

Deliverer9 Jan 2018 15:51I’m actually not upset that there is only a double outlet "by the TV" in this older house. A few years ago, two power strips were plugged in there, and everything was wired through the hi-fi cabinet. Much more convenient when making changes.
Now, only a projector screen is connected to those two outlets. The projector gets its power from the opposite side of the room, and all the equipment is located in the corner. With eight outlets in the wall, my wife would have to put up quite a few plants just to cover them...

Is it really that unusual to place a power strip inside the media console and connect the devices inside to it?
It’s not like the power strip has to lie on the floor. No, of course it’s not unusual, you can definitely do that. It’s actually set up that way in the bottom compartment of my current Besta TV cabinet. No matter how neatly everything is plugged in at first, sooner or later you’ll rearrange something and it ends up — at least for me — in a cable mess. It’s not just power cables but also some network cables, speaker cables, and HDMI cables. I find dedicated outlets for power and network inside the wall to be somewhat tidier. But maybe the problem lies more with the user than with the cabinet itself. I wouldn’t rule that out.

How many outlets do you actually have around the TV? And how do you organize them? All in a row or arranged in two rows?At the moment, one outlet is occupied by the TV [emoji2]. Another one has the power strip, which was originally meant for the receiver, speakers, Wii, and DVD player.
But thanks to the new TV, none of that is needed anymore.
Now we have the phone plugged in there, a lamp... oh, and our new Bose speaker is plugged in as well...
Well... who needs more than three outlets anyway [emoji6]

How about using rechargeable batteries? Just take them out at the end of the season, recharge them, and you’re good to go.
I do see one issue, but that’s more my wife’s concern, as I’m not really into Christmas decorations. When you have many battery or LED solutions, you have to individually turn each one on and off like a night watchman throughout the house. I can imagine that becoming quite annoying...
