Hello everyone,

we are currently brainstorming ideas, drawing floor plans back and forth, and so on... basically at the very beginning.

I’m very curious about what unusual features you have incorporated into your homes. Any special elements, gadgets, functions, custom furniture, appliances, etc., where you thought, "I have to have this, no matter what."

I’m asking because over the weekend, I randomly came up with an idea where I exactly had that thought (I have to have it). I had never seen anything like it before, but when I started searching online, I quickly realized that such things already exist – honestly, I would have been surprised if I hadn’t found anything. Over the weekend, we visited an indoor playground with giant trampolines. Our floor plan includes a fairly large open space near the entrance, and I thought about putting a trampoline there. But I quickly dismissed the idea because jumping would make the ceiling feel too close. Then I remembered those safety nets often seen on construction sites, which can also be used as huge hammocks. I think that’s very cool, and if you search for "hammock net indoors," you’ll find some pictures.

I think there are so many cool things like this already out there, but you just don't think of them.
I’m excited to hear what you have incorporated into your homes.
If you want, feel free to upload 1-2 pictures.

Thanks and best regards,
sebisanu

Steel strips embedded in the plaster within the lintels above the windows, now wallpapered over. Window decorations can now be freely positioned using magnetic hooks.

I have a soil pipe coming from the upstairs bathroom that exits near the washing machine in the utility room, making it convenient to throw used towels and laundry into it.

On the upper floor (knee wall 1.20 m (4 feet)), leave the ceiling open and install a partial ceiling (height 2.10 m (7 feet)) halfway up, with a railing at the top and a nice staircase leading up. On this small gallery, you can place a guest bed or set up a reading area. Above that, add a roof window.

In the largest bedroom, build a partition wall to create a walk-in closet. Install a standard door or a sliding door.

Our must-haves were: a back door with a real handle to avoid locking yourself out. A utility room large enough to function as a laundry room and pantry, with a utility sink for heavy-duty use, etc.
Despite having a bungalow layout, a proper staircase— not a pull-down ladder—leading up to the attic, which is fully accessible and serves as a basement substitute.
That’s about it. Karsten
