Hello everyone,
we are currently brainstorming ideas, drawing floor plans back and forth, and so on... basically at the very beginning.
I’m very curious about what unusual features you have incorporated into your homes. Any special elements, gadgets, functions, custom furniture, appliances, etc., where you thought, "I have to have this, no matter what."
I’m asking because over the weekend, I randomly came up with an idea where I exactly had that thought (I have to have it). I had never seen anything like it before, but when I started searching online, I quickly realized that such things already exist – honestly, I would have been surprised if I hadn’t found anything. Over the weekend, we visited an indoor playground with giant trampolines. Our floor plan includes a fairly large open space near the entrance, and I thought about putting a trampoline there. But I quickly dismissed the idea because jumping would make the ceiling feel too close. Then I remembered those safety nets often seen on construction sites, which can also be used as huge hammocks. I think that’s very cool, and if you search for "hammock net indoors," you’ll find some pictures.
I think there are so many cool things like this already out there, but you just don't think of them.
I’m excited to hear what you have incorporated into your homes.
If you want, feel free to upload 1-2 pictures.
Thanks and best regards,
sebisanu

Cat flap in the exterior wall.According to the energy saving regulations?!
Something I absolutely had to have was a way to get my belongings from the car to the house without getting them wet. Since we are building a semi-detached house with the main entrance at the front and the garage on the side, that wasn’t possible. I was even considering canceling the whole thing.
The solution?
A covered patio, an exit from the storage room connected to the garage leading to the side, and voilà:
I walk through the rain into the house, dry off, then go across the covered patio to the garage and can bring all my things inside without getting them wet.
It sounds complicated, but it was the only option (changing the floor plan to have the entrance on the side would have been a bad idea) and it’s acceptable to me.
What I want to say is: if you want something that doesn’t seem possible at first, try thinking a little outside the box.
P.S. The metal strips are noted on my list too!

Yes, getting materials into the house while keeping them dry... we haven’t really thought about that so far, but it definitely makes sense.
We will also have a pantry, but the access will be hidden. That’s something I absolutely MUST have. The access to the pantry will be through a kitchen cabinet. A secret passage – I just like that kind of thing.

AnneKueste8 Jan 2018 23:23Hello,
how about bat boxes, swallow nests, bee hotels, owl nest boxes… for example built into the facade?
This is not only environmentally friendly but also brings a lot of fascinating wildlife life around the house.

But it rains non-stop here in beloved Germany [emoji23][emoji23] oh man...
In four years (a daily hard worker in the wet north), I’ve probably been caught in the rain only about 10 times walking from the carport to the front door, and only twice did I get really soaked over those 5 meters (16 feet).
Three of those times were wonderful summer showers, during which I deliberately paused and enjoyed the moment.
Who wants to calculate the frequency?
So: don’t exaggerate [emoji6]
