ᐅ We are gathering ideas for floor plans – still at the very beginning of the process.

Hello everyone,

we are currently brainstorming ideas, drawing floor plans back and forth, and so on... basically at the very beginning.

I’m very curious about what unusual features you have incorporated into your homes. Any special elements, gadgets, functions, custom furniture, appliances, etc., where you thought, "I have to have this, no matter what."

I’m asking because over the weekend, I randomly came up with an idea where I exactly had that thought (I have to have it). I had never seen anything like it before, but when I started searching online, I quickly realized that such things already exist – honestly, I would have been surprised if I hadn’t found anything. Over the weekend, we visited an indoor playground with giant trampolines. Our floor plan includes a fairly large open space near the entrance, and I thought about putting a trampoline there. But I quickly dismissed the idea because jumping would make the ceiling feel too close. Then I remembered those safety nets often seen on construction sites, which can also be used as huge hammocks. I think that’s very cool, and if you search for "hammock net indoors," you’ll find some pictures.

I think there are so many cool things like this already out there, but you just don't think of them.
I’m excited to hear what you have incorporated into your homes.
If you want, feel free to upload 1-2 pictures.

Thanks and best regards,
sebisanu

So do you shower with boots on or what? Or naked? And what about dirty clothes? Isn’t that a bit over the top? I just take off my dirty clothes in the utility room and then, almost naked if sweaty, head into the bathroom… water on.

Over the top? I wouldn’t call a simple shower that. It’s located in the laundry room, right next to the side door that leads directly from the garden into the house. The alternative would have been a normal shower cabin in that corner. There’s no other shower on the ground floor — and when I’m working in the garden or plastering walls, I’m usually covered in dirt from head to toe ^^ So far, dirty clothes get taken off downstairs, and then I walk upstairs to the bathroom naked (and barefoot…). Not so great with cold tiles on the ground floor. And not so nice with dirty feet either.

An elevator in the house — I always thought that was great but probably not affordable. How much does something like that cost, if I may ask? Of course, you can probably spend tens of thousands, but where do you get a decent entry-level solution? All ideas are really cool!

We definitely don’t have a conventional elevator. We simply built a shaft out of concrete or masonry. There are wide doors at the bottom and top, plus a rope pulley system for now (currently only used to transport wood, briquettes, and drinks).

Hello

There is an electrical outlet at every window. My wife came up with the idea, for Christmas decorations.
In my workshop, I have 64 outlets. Sounds like a lot, but it goes quickly. (top row 3 x 3, middle row 3 x 3, bottom row 3 x 3) The same setup is opposite, and the rest are on the end wall. Plus three-phase power. In any case, there is always an outlet free.
A vault door from the garage to the basement. The door has a combination lock on both sides. A soaking tub used as a sink in the laundry room, so the grill can also be cleaned there.

I understand the part about the shower now. Yes. Not bad.
I now see the freight elevator as a structure with blocks, rope, and folding runners, purely mechanical. That’s a great concept. Usually, only sailors come up with something like that.... Karsten

Over the past four years (working daily in the rainy north), I’ve probably only been caught in the rain about 10 times walking from the carport to the front door, and only twice got really soaked over a distance of 5 meters (16 feet).

I manage to get wet fewer than ten times a year when walking between the house and garage. That’s roughly about 600 meters (1,970 feet).

our self-built cat litter box (happy to show it if anyone’s interested, no more scatter effect)

Yes, that sounds interesting.

A second sink (about 20 x 20 cm (8 x 8 inches)) right next to the cooktop with a pull-out faucet that can be turned on or off directly at the extended spray head.

That’s going on my wish list as well.

What we absolutely wanted:

- a true window seat facing west with a 60cm (24 inches) deep window sill (we will get this)
- part of the 2.40m (7 feet 10 inches) wide upstairs corridor with a glass floor (we will not get this)
- a flush-mounted recessed mirrored cabinet in the main bathroom (we will get this)
- a kitchen with a cooking island partly made from an old workbench (we will get this)
- a shower toilet (we will not get this)
- fully flush interior doors without visible frames (we will not get this, only doors installed flush with the wall)
- LED light strips as inner corner tile trims in the shower (we will get this)

I don’t think anyone will beat that.

The window sockets also sound very practical; that way, you don’t end up with extension cables everywhere (Christmas decorations). If my wife hears about this, she will definitely want it ^^.

I’m really looking forward to all your many ideas!
