janismail7 Apr 2015 19:32Hello everyone,
I recently assembled several Ikea Platsa cabinet systems in my apartment and now want to properly care for and clean them. Since the surface seems quite prone to scratches and stains, I am looking for recommendations for suitable cleaning products specifically designed for Ikea PLATSA.
What cleaning agents or care products do you use for your PLATSA units? Are there any special products that are both gentle on the surface and effective against dirt, grease marks, or fingerprints?
I want to avoid damaging the surfaces with the wrong products or overly aggressive cleaners, so I am especially interested in products that are well suited both in terms of their composition and user experience.
I look forward to your tips and experiences!

Sometimes I use a fresh all-purpose cleaner, but only if the manufacturer guarantees it contains no harsh chemicals. With a soft cloth, and just like that, it looks great again!
A small tip: fingerprints can also be easily removed with a slightly damp microfiber cloth, which almost makes it a breeze.

Do not use harsh cleaners or abrasive materials, as they can cause scratches. I completely agree. I once had a minor uncertainty with my PLATSA set and accidentally used a somewhat stronger glass cleaner – unfortunately, the surface ended up streaky and felt dry afterward. Since then, I only use neutral cleaning products and occasionally some furniture polish.
Especially because PLATSA aims to provide flexibility through its modular design, I think it is important to preserve the surface in the long term. It doesn’t cost anything to be a bit cautious.

1. Material characteristics: Most PLATSA fronts are made of foil-coated MDF or particleboard, which means that aggressive solvents or alkaline cleaners can damage the surface.
2. Cleaning: It’s best to use a mild cleaning agent, such as a solution of lukewarm water and a few drops of a pH-neutral dish soap. A soft cloth (microfiber cloths are ideal) is important to avoid scratches.
3. Stain removal: For stubborn stains, glass cleaner can be used, but only if it does not contain ammonia or aggressive solvents. Test it first on an inconspicuous area.
4. Maintenance: For ongoing care, I would recommend a product designed specifically for coated furniture that protects the surface and leaves no residue.
Finally, a question: How do you handle cleaning built-in drawers or lower areas that are more frequently exposed to grease and dirt? Do you use any special methods?
I look forward to your feedback.
