Hello everyone,

I recently assembled several Ikea Platsa cabinet systems in my apartment and now want to properly care for and clean them. Since the surface seems quite prone to scratches and stains, I am looking for recommendations for suitable cleaning products specifically designed for Ikea PLATSA.

What cleaning agents or care products do you use for your PLATSA units? Are there any special products that are both gentle on the surface and effective against dirt, grease marks, or fingerprints?

I want to avoid damaging the surfaces with the wrong products or overly aggressive cleaners, so I am especially interested in products that are well suited both in terms of their composition and user experience.

I look forward to your tips and experiences!

Overall, the choice of cleaning products for Ikea Platsa largely depends on the exact surface finish.

Most PLATSA components have a melamine coating or a foil surface, meaning they are easy to maintain but can be damaged by harsh chemicals and abrasive agents.

My approach:
- Cleaning with a soft microfiber cloth and lukewarm water with a pH-neutral dish soap
- For more stubborn stains: apply diluted alcohol (about 30%) but never spray directly onto the surface; apply it to the cloth instead
- Always wipe dry after cleaning to prevent any moisture from remaining

For maintenance, I occasionally use specific water-based furniture care products that do not contain waxes or oils, as such residues can make the surface sticky and attract more dirt.

One question: How often do you clean your PLATSA systems, and are there areas that experience more wear than others?

Hello janismail,

I completely understand your concerns, as PLATSA systems can be sensitive to improper care due to their material composition.

Here are some basic guidelines that should help you:

- Cleaners: Preferably use a mild, pH-neutral dish soap. Other products may damage the surface film.

- Cloths: Microfiber cloths are ideal since they remove dirt without scratching the surface.

- Avoid abrasive sponges or harsh cleaning agents containing alcohol or ammonia.

- For stubborn stains, use a little vinegar water (1 part vinegar to 4 parts water), but always test on an inconspicuous area first.

- Never spray cleaning solutions directly onto the surface; apply them to the cloth instead.

- After cleaning with a damp cloth, always dry the surface thoroughly.

If you want to know exactly how often and on which types of dirt you should use these methods, just let me know—I’m happy to help!
