Hello,
We are currently building a semi-detached house and will install a standard traditional doorbell.
Later, we want to replace it with a smart video doorbell.
Which smart video doorbell would you recommend? It should meet the following criteria:
No cloud storage – all data should remain within my own network.
The doorbell sound should ring as usual on the existing chime, and additionally ring on my phone and my wife's phone (it's enough if this works only when we are connected to Wi-Fi; it does not need to work when we are away).
The doorbell should continue to ring even if there is currently no Wi-Fi connection.
No monthly fees.
What is the legal situation? We probably won't be able to prevent the street from being recorded in the background. Is this a problem or illegal? The recording will only be temporary and only when someone rings the bell.

What should a video intercom system do? Ring and transmit video. Why is the two-wire solution not so great? It’s simply outdated technology and no longer appropriate today. Two-wire systems are mainly used when retrofitting existing buildings that only have a classic doorbell wire. It’s always a compromise compared to a proper LAN connection. Conclusion: people just don’t do this anymore, and it’s definitely not recommended if you’re installing new wiring anyway. There’s also a huge difference between “transmitting video” and “transmitting video.” I assume you want to see *who* is at the door, not just *whether* someone is there.

Wrong question. 😉 (BJ is simply not quite “in tune” yet, even though they do offer an IP gateway. Technically, providers like Ring, Eufy, Doorbird, Dahua, Mobotix, and also Netatmo are better... basically all those that rely primarily on LAN and smart technology, rather than just offering it as an add-on.) This doesn’t mean they’re all perfect, but they do provide a more modern approach.

I think that the manufacturer still includes a considerable margin in the original price. But that doesn't really matter, because as long as customers pay it, this approach works. This is quite likely for the German market.
For the end user, however, there is a problem if they cannot install and commission the system themselves: they either have to pay the electrician’s quoted price or find another provider.
Because, as a rule, electricians will not install products supplied by the customer due to liability reasons.
In my case, as a consolation, I negotiated a discount on all items purchased from Busch-Jaeger.
But this does not change the general issue across the different trades in the construction sector.
