Hello,
We are currently building a semi-detached house and will install a standard traditional doorbell.
Later, we want to replace it with a smart video doorbell.
Which smart video doorbell would you recommend? It should meet the following criteria:
No cloud storage – all data should remain within my own network.
The doorbell sound should ring as usual on the existing chime, and additionally ring on my phone and my wife's phone (it's enough if this works only when we are connected to Wi-Fi; it does not need to work when we are away).
The doorbell should continue to ring even if there is currently no Wi-Fi connection.
No monthly fees.
What is the legal situation? We probably won't be able to prevent the street from being recorded in the background. Is this a problem or illegal? The recording will only be temporary and only when someone rings the bell.

For later. 😉 If you don’t want a video system for Nairobi, you don’t need it, but otherwise it definitely offers more flexibility than outdated two-wire systems. Could you explain that in more detail? What exactly should a video intercom do? Ring and transmit video. Why is the two-wire solution not so great?
And you are right. I will hire the electrician to switch to JB and upgrade the indoor unit to 7 inches.
Which outdoor station do you recommend? Is this one okay?
Well, in principle, you can of course connect the camera to any control unit using two wires, but it seems to me that many manufacturers integrate the intelligence directly into the camera module, and IP (network) is the common protocol used to connect it with other components. This way, the camera can not only transmit video and audio but also, for example, recognize who is at the door, notify you when a package is delivered, and so on. Our door station now only requires a network connection.
The module already looks suitable. You should just make sure to choose the 180° (instead of 105°) field of view.

Just don’t be surprised that this system will be considerably more expensive than what you have apparently been offered so far.
You can roughly estimate the price based on online prices. The electrician will have to charge a significantly higher price.
The ones sold online are all reimports from Eastern Europe.
BJ is aware of this but, according to their own statements, cannot do anything about it.

BJ is aware of this but claims they can’t do anything about it. I’ve read in reviews that it is supposed to have a bad reputation. Has anyone already seen it?
I’ll ask about the price. The current one should cost around 900 € (about 980 USD). If the BJ costs 400-500 € (about 440-550 USD) more, that would be acceptable.

Delete "can," replace with "want" Unfortunately, it’s not that simple.
The complete calculation of individual product groups is of course based on country-specific price differences.
If manufacturers were to use only the prices from the cheapest supply regions globally, the calculations would likely no longer work for almost everyone.
Depending on how scalable the production is and whether higher sales could compensate for this.
The electrical industry is no exception here.
