Hello everyone,

We have received a quote from an electrician (a friend from our personal circle). However, we are a bit unsure about the costs and whether this is a “normal” price. It concerns a new installation in an existing building of about 150 sqm (1,615 sq ft) near Düsseldorf.

I’m particularly interested in items such as power outlets, light switches, and network sockets. It is a wooden house with installation layers and a new floor structure, so no chasing in the walls.

All Gira standard and including wiring:
Per power outlet: €50
Per switch: €55
Per two-way switch: €90
Per CAT 2-gang outlet: €100
Per thermostat for underfloor heating: €120
Distribution board: €2,000
Patch panel with connection: €450

At the moment, it is quite difficult to get quotes and find electricians who also have time, but I would request more offers if you think this is clearly overpriced.

Thank you!

Gross or net? I would say it’s not too expensive, but also not a real friendly price (although being near Düsseldorf is probably not very cheap). Perhaps his friendly offer is that he will do it relatively quickly?

Everything is net, we would probably start in September/October, as the final work still needs to be completed before then.

I assume this means carrying out the entire work as well?
What we did in the existing house was only replacing existing components. I assume new electrical boxes will also be installed, so drilling and channelling will be necessary.
How extensive is your renovation? A full gut renovation?

If that price is "all in," I would consider it rather normal to affordable.

It is a complete full gut renovation with a new floor construction and installation layers. Chasing is not necessary, as it is a timber-framed house. All old cables, sockets, etc. have already been removed.

The price per socket etc. includes the connection work.

For us, the additional costs for power outlets, switches, and network sockets were about €10-20 cheaper, including chasing in the sand-lime brick, and this was with the electrician from the developer. In this context, it doesn’t sound like a special discount to me. However, the electrician is from near Magdeburg, which— as @Tolentino already mentioned—probably makes a difference compared to Düsseldorf, and it was also an affordable Busch-Jäger series. Wouldn’t it make sense to do an overall plan? The electrician would probably prefer to install 80 double sockets rather than 100 single sockets.
