Hello everyone,

Which tasks are absolutely necessary for the electrician during the shell construction phase?
I believe the main priority is the main electrical connection, that is clear to me.

My situation is that I am just starting the electrical planning now, but the shell construction will begin in the next few weeks (I won’t be finished that quickly).
I plan to do the chasing myself, as that allows for flexibility and can be done once the shell is up... but what SHOULD definitely be done by a professional electrician while the builder is constructing the shell?

Best regards

The utility connection is installed once the building is weather-tight and the scaffolding has been removed. Or do you mean temporary construction power?

In our case, the electrician came for the first time after the shell construction was completed to carry out the rough installation. Chasing, drilling, wiring.

During the shell construction phase, chases are made, boxes installed, and cables pulled so that everything can later be concealed behind plaster or screed. You will need to discuss the procedure with your electrician. The chases, openings, and riser routes depend on your requirements. Proper planning is necessary to determine the exact locations. Routes from the main distribution board to the rooms should not be overlooked, including external ones.

OK, great, thanks for the reply.
I can make the chases once the shell is complete.

But the routes will presumably be installed by the structural builder, ideally during the shell construction phase?

The concrete ceilings should have appropriate openings prepared by the shell builder, which will then be used for cable passages and similar purposes.
If you plan to install spotlights anywhere, make sure to have the suitable mounting boxes installed at the same time.

As long as the plaster/screed isn’t installed yet, nothing really matters. Everything can still be done later, but the effort is somewhat greater.

For example, in my opinion, it makes sense to install ceiling outlets and lay cables during the construction of a prefabricated concrete ceiling, so you don’t have to drill through 20+cm (8 inches) of reinforced concrete later. For spotlights, discuss directly with the ceiling contractor and have the boxes installed at the factory.
Before the windows are installed, position empty conduits near the windows so the connection cable for the roller shutters can be routed.

The rest can be handled later without stress.

But presumably, the structural builder will install the cable trays already during the shell construction phase, right?

As long as it’s not an industrial complex, you don’t really need strict “cable tray planning.” It would be good to talk with the plumber about where their pipes need to go, and if there is ventilation or exhaust ducts in the screed, coordinate with those installers as well. The ducts are relatively large, and in the end, most of it usually leads into one room. It can get quite tight.
