Hello everyone,

As we are currently looking into buying a kitchen, we are interested in the fairness of the asking prices. Our experience so far has been that price reductions of 25-50% off the initial prices have sometimes been offered.

To get a better idea of what constitutes a reasonable price for a kitchen, rather than focusing on "how much of a discount can I negotiate," I would like to see a list of your kitchen purchases:

Manufacturer:
Kitchen studio:
Initial price:
Final price:

I hope this discussion will help readers by sharing real experiences, leading to a fair interaction at the kitchen showroom, without either party feeling like they have been taken advantage of.

Best regards,

Hello,

how do you come to that conclusion:

also regarding functionality (for example, 2 ovens, one of them a combi steam oven, which alone costs over €1,000 on the internet).

We have an IKEA kitchen and we have two ovens stacked on top of each other. Why shouldn’t that work with IKEA?

The appliances at IKEA are really not that great, though. But I would always provide those myself anyway.

Andreas

Serious question, or are you just trolling me?

Do I really have to explain why a €1,500 Miele combination steam oven offers a functional advantage over a €500 Ikea oven? Whether it's worth it is another matter. For me, it is, because the range of functions is significantly expanded.

Of course, you can also buy an Ikea kitchen and install these appliances, but then you are far from the €4,000 budget that is often mentioned here. I'm not saying Ikea is bad (it definitely isn’t); the question is whether a kitchen costing €20,000 offers added value compared to one costing €4,000, regardless of Ikea or a kitchen specialist.

The only issue with Ikea is the lack of customization and the inability to upgrade, for example, the cabinet fronts to higher-quality options. Therefore, Ikea can only cover the standard range; if you want more, you have to go to a kitchen specialist or cabinetmaker.

I have no idea who you mean right now, but

if your rude rant is directed at me:
Your previous post implied, for example, that having two ovens with Ikea would not work, which is simply not true.

And my reply was only referring to that. I would also guess that a 1500 € Miele oven is probably better than a 500 € Ikea oven. Whether you need or use the features, everyone has to decide for themselves.

We spent less on the kitchen fronts and countertops but invested significantly in some of the appliances and quality cabinet units (such as a pull-out pantry cabinet, mostly pull-out cupboards, etc.). A Bora induction cooktop is definitely a great feature. A built-in refrigerator with a freezer compartment including an automatic ice maker is already something that others might pay the price of an entire kitchen for. For the oven, microwave, and dishwasher, we went with Neff. Neff ovens are always worth a closer look since they are probably the only ones with retractable doors. That is really a fantastic feature!

Oven from IKEA: I measured the interior dimensions during my building phase (2013) because the metal sheets seemed so small to me—they are indeed smaller inside. A colleague of mine who once worked at IKEA explained it: poor insulation, which then has to be thicker to be energy efficient.

No one claimed that... That’s why in a forum it’s best to understand things as they are written and not make assumptions or overlook parts. I wrote that I don’t want a 4,000€ kitchen from Ikea. Equally, I don’t want one from a kitchen studio for 4,000€.
