Hello everyone, I am currently planning an Ikea Metod kitchen and am considering how to maintain these kitchen units in daily use. Specifically, I am interested in the best ways to care for surfaces, hinges, and drawer mechanisms to extend the lifespan of the components. Are there any particular cleaning or maintenance recommendations to follow, for example, related to the material properties or the hardware used? Also, what about maintenance for wear parts such as hinges or drawer slides? I want to avoid causing damage through improper care or having to schedule unnecessary repairs later. I look forward to your tips and experiences!

For surfaces, a damp cloth with a mild cleaning agent is usually sufficient. Hinges and drawer slides can occasionally be lubricated with a small amount of silicone spray to keep the mechanism smooth. Regularly removing dust will ensure everything stays in good condition.

For maintenance, Ikea itself provides a brief datasheet with cleaner recommendations. Avoid harsh or abrasive agents and do not use aggressive chemicals. For the mechanics: occasionally tighten screws to ensure everything remains stable.

Thanks in advance for the initial tips! Can anyone provide more specific advice on how often hinges or drawer slides should be maintained, for example, after how long of use lubrication is recommended? Are there any practical guidelines? Especially considering that the metal in the hinges might be sensitive and could develop rust?

Routine maintenance every 6 months is advisable. Clean the hinges and then apply a light coating of lubricant. Rust usually does not develop if the kitchen is not too humid.

I would also recommend checking more frequently for any moisture buildup, especially near the sink or stove. This helps protect the hinges and prevents rust.
