AirRosa 😕 Hello everyone,
We are currently assembling our new Metod kitchen. We are having issues with a tall cabinet (60x59x220 cm (24x23x87 inches)) for the oven/microwave. The tall cabinet is mounted on wall rails.
We screwed a decorative panel onto the side panel of the cabinet carcass. At the back, the decorative panel is flush with the carcass. But at the front, the decorative panel extends 2.5 cm (1 inch) beyond the carcass. The door we want to install at the bottom is not 2.5 cm (1 inch) thick.
The carcass side is 59 cm (23 inches) wide, and the decorative panel is 61.5 cm (24 inches) wide. These dimensions do not match.
The assembly instructions do not mention by how many centimeters the decorative panel should protrude.
How can we adjust the decorative panel?
Thank you for your help

IKEA-Experte22 Oct 2014 01:23Hello,
the cabinet body should have a gap of 1 cm (0.4 inches) from the wall. If the top panel extends all the way to the wall, it will protrude by 1.5 cm (0.6 inches) at the front, which is approximately the thickness of a front panel.

I would rather shorten the rail than cut a recess into the side panel – it probably won't look very neat even with careful work.

Sektionschef23 Oct 2014 07:13I have a question about this as well:
You can either install the base and wall cabinets using a wall rail system or, like in the past with Faktum, screw them directly to the wall.
As I understand it, when screwing the cabinets directly to the wall, there is no gap between the cabinet carcass and the wall.
Does that mean that the side panel will always protrude too far at the front and would actually need to be trimmed?
Best regards,
Sektionschef

Nayla_106823 Oct 2014 21:01Hi,
for the carcasses, you should actually leave out the top panel or shorten the rail; otherwise, it will stick out too far, and you might have trouble opening the door. As you correctly noticed, you can also mount the carcass without the wall rail. Either directly on the wall like with Faktum, where the brackets need to be moved one hole forward, which then makes the top panel sit too low. Or you mount the wall bracket in the rear holes, just like when you want to hang it on the wall rail. Then you insert the included spacers into the bracket clamps and mount the carcass to the wall. The top panels will fit again, and you don’t have to cut anything. This is also shown in the installation manual; you just have to look through it a bit.
Best regards and good luck
