Hello,

First of all, I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Hannes, I’m 34, and I live near Tübingen with my wife and our one-year-old son. We will soon be moving into our house, a renovated old building. The current Faktum kitchen has to go for many reasons... no dishwasher, oven not child-safe, cabinets in the way, etc.

In the long term, the kitchen will be a two-row layout. But since the dining table will still be in the kitchen for now, only one row will be replaced at first. The refrigerator will be moved to the other side immediately.

Attached is a small hand drawing… (sorry, the IKEA planner keeps crashing on me lately…)
Fronts: Ringhult white
Handles: If needed, Blankett long
Countertop: 290 cm (114 inches) long... tricky - I want it as one piece. I spoke with a hardware store, and they can deliver suitable depths and lengths within 10 days. I’m undecided whether to go with solid wood or laminate… light or dark? What would you choose for this room?

I ordered appliances yesterday:

Neff Mega BE 1542 N built-in oven stainless steel B15E42N3
NEFF TD 1342 N TouchControl cooktop 60 cm (24 inches) T13D42N2
Neff GX 51 fully integrated dishwasher S52N52X1EU

and the sink

BLANCOLANTOS XL 6 S-IF 519709

For the faucet, we will probably go with the “Grohe Minta”.

The dishwasher is 86.5 cm (34 inches) high; that shouldn’t be a problem, right? The cabinets stand on legs, and the countertop will be 88 cm (35 inches) above the floor?

I’m grateful for any input 🙂

Best regards and many thanks

Hello, it’s better to choose the S72N65X4EU or another model with a variable hinge, so you’re also safe for the future.

Hello, I’d recommend the S72N65X4EU or another model with a soft-close hinge to be on the safe side for the future.

Hello IKEA expert, thanks for your reply! I’ve looked up what the soft-close hinge does, but I’m not sure if it’s really necessary for the current plan. Could you please briefly explain where you see the advantage?

With the Vario hinge, you can mount an 80cm (31.5 inches) high front panel directly. Without it, you need to use a workaround (which I named the Stefan method in the dishwasher front thread because Stefan was the first to describe it) or use BEHJÄLPLIG. With Behjälplig (like many other IKEA products), you can never be sure if replacement parts will be available for years, and it can only be properly installed if the dishwasher front is secured on each side with three screws (check the installation manual). It’s also uncertain whether the Stefan method will work reliably under all local conditions.

Hello! I changed the order again; the S72N65X4EU model has a few additional features, such as projecting the remaining time onto the floor 😀.

Now I have a problem, and it’s related to the design.

In the first design, the sink was placed right in the corner, with the drainer on the right side (which is "wrong"):

The advantages were, for example, the large area between the sink and the stove, a good position for the dishwasher, the 60cm (24 inches) drawer next to the stove, and the practical 20cm (8 inches) pull-out.

In a revised design, the sink is better positioned.

However, the dishwasher is now on the far outer side, and instead of the 60cm (24 inches) drawer and 20cm (8 inches) pull-out, there are two 40cm (16 inches) drawers under the counter on the left and right sides of the cooktop.

Neither design is perfect. I think the second option has fewer drawbacks…

What do you think?

This is better. It now fits the upper cabinets more appropriately. In my opinion, drip trays are unnecessary.
