Hello IKEA fans,

I ordered a kitchen from IKEA for the first time and also had a professional measurement done because all the walls are uneven. Additionally, I ordered a custom countertop from IKEA.

This weekend, I realized that the IKEA custom countertop does not fit. I expected a custom countertop to arrive ready for proper installation without any adjustments. Of course, I understand that I need to drill the holes for the sink and the cooktop myself, which is not the problem. The main issue is that the entire countertop dimensions do not match at all.

Am I correct in thinking that custom countertops should arrive accurately cut to size, or is it normal that I have to modify the countertop myself?

I have emailed IKEA because it’s impossible to get through by phone. I’m still waiting for a response and thought I’d ask you here to ease my mind.

One often waits ages for email replies, and sometimes none come at all, in my experience.

A custom Ikea countertop has to fit perfectly. If it is too long or too short, the measurements were taken incorrectly, which would then be considered a defect.

How exactly does the custom countertop not fit? If the wall is "uneven" and the countertop doesn’t sit flush because of that, IKEA, in my opinion, doesn’t handle this (that’s what trim pieces are for). The length (and angle?) should still be correct. Was this not discussed? Every "special" cut usually costs extra, doesn’t it?

Was a room measurement or a countertop measurement taken?

A measurement of the kitchen was taken, which is Ikea’s measurement service.

What doesn’t fit here are the angles and also the cut lengths.

Even though it is "just a room measurement," I consider the discrepancies to be far too large. I would clarify this on-site at my IKEA.
