Hello everyone,
Some time ago, we successfully assembled a new Ikea kitchen.
At that time, we spent quite a while fitting the refrigerator door so that it would close properly within the Faktum tall cabinet with 3 doors. We have a fridge-freezer combo.
The tall cabinet is positioned with its left side against the wall. On the right side of the cabinet carcass, we screwed on a colored panel so that the carcass is no longer visible. The countertop begins there.
As is well known, the panel protrudes slightly, so when the door is closed, it forms a flush surface.
Now to the problem:
I can only close the refrigerator and freezer doors if they rub against the panel. The hinges cannot be adjusted to move the doors further away from the panel. Trying different adjustments has made it worse.
Does anyone have any idea how I could solve this? I hope I’ve explained the situation clearly enough.
The hinges are somewhat shallower than normal hinges, like the one on the top door above the fridge-freezer combo.
I would be grateful for any suggestions.
Good luck
Thomas

I have now found out that the Factum cabinet housing the fridge-freezer is not perfectly vertical. Exaggerating a bit, it’s curved inward like a banana, right at the height of the countertop. I probably didn’t pay close enough attention to the alignment of the tall cabinet during assembly.
I’m now considering using a router to recess the hinges a little deeper to restore the correct gap. I would mark the hinges with a pencil and then route about 3–4mm (1/8–3/16 inches) so the hinge fits in, then screw it back in. I hope this will create enough clearance for the doors to close properly.
I’ll report back on how it goes.
