Hello
I had originally planned a Faktum kitchen, but unfortunately our house construction has been delayed, and it’s quite possible that the new Metod kitchen will already be available at Ikea when we buy the kitchen.
However, I have already purchased the countertop (Akerby) for the kitchen from the clearance section, which was a good opportunity at half price.
Now I am wondering if I could possibly use this Faktum countertop together with Metod base cabinets?
The Faktum countertop is 62cm (24.4 inches) deep, Faktum base cabinets should be 58cm (22.8 inches) deep, resulting in a difference of 4cm (1.6 inches).
The Metod base cabinets should be 60cm (23.6 inches) deep, and Metod countertops have a depth of 63.5cm (25 inches), which results in a difference of 3.5cm (1.4 inches).
If I use the Faktum countertop with Metod base cabinets, the difference would be 62 - 60 = 2cm (0.8 inches).
Would that still be acceptable, or is this overlap too small?
Regards

The video shows the base cabinets with 4 legs, but it may not be entirely accurate in detail.

IKEA-Experte19 Sep 2013 17:15The assembly instructions show holes in the floor for the legs at the front and back. And if possible, the dowels on the legs could be cut off, and they could simply be screwed on.

I didn’t know that the back has a hanging rail instead of legs. Whether shortening the rail will work mainly depends on how much space there is between the back panel of the base cabinet and the room wall. But the idea is very good!!! Do you still roughly remember how large that gap was?

SektionschefSo, the back panel is not flush at the very back anymore; the gap to the wall is only a few millimeters (inches), since everything was already assembled.
Legs with rails are definitely only at the front, but of course, with islands, legs also need to be at the back. The height adjustment will be tricky with an 8 cm (3 inch) plinth, you might want to enlist help from your wife and kids.

Nayla_106821 Sep 2013 23:38Hi,
just like with Faktum, there are 4 legs per base cabinet. It gets tricky adjusting the ones at the back, so this usually has to be done from the side or beforehand. It’s possible that the colleagues in the foreign stores simply left out the rear legs. The fact is, they are supposed to be installed.
The countertops for Metod are 63.5cm (25 inches). Faktum and Metod cabinet carcasses are 58cm (23 inches) deep. Front panels are between 1.6 and 2cm (0.6 and 0.8 inches) deep. Adding all this plus the countertop overhang of 2cm (0.8 inches) results in about 62cm (24 inches). Since Metod has a 1.5cm (0.6 inch) hanging rail, you end up at 63.5cm (25 inches).

IKEA-Experte22 Sep 2013 14:52The difficulty arises at the back when adjusting; this then must be done either from the side or beforehand. If this is already recognized as a problem, I wonder why different feet are not used. I know of feet in a 30-year-old kitchen that have thicker and more flexible plastic, with continuous holes that can be rotated 90° to two different heights. Using a screwdriver inserted through the holes makes adjusting somewhat easier with such a low plinth height. Over the years, readjustment is sometimes necessary if the floor has settled slightly.
Do you really want to stick to only 8 cm (3 inches)? There is a reason why the FAKTUM plinth is available at a height of 21 cm (8 inches). Some customers will certainly be lost if the working height is not at least somewhat adjustable.
As modern as Ikea likes to present itself, I would expect that such considerations, likely raised by some employees, are passed on and taken into account.

The countertops for Metod are 63.5cm (25 inches). Faktum, like the Metod carcass, is 58cm (23 inches) deep. Front panels are between 1.6 and 2cm (0.6 and 0.8 inches) thick. Adding all this plus the countertop overhang of 2cm (0.8 inches) results in approximately 62cm (24 inches). Since Metod has a 1.5cm (0.6 inches) hanging rail, you end up with a total of 63.5cm (25 inches). Thanks, I actually only understood it now:
Faktum and Metod carcasses are both 58cm (23 inches) deep. However, this measurement is WITHOUT the front panels, so you have to add about 1.6 to 2cm (0.6 to 0.8 inches) for those.
For Faktum, that’s already taken into account, resulting in a total depth of about 59.6 to 60cm (23.5 to 24 inches). The Faktum countertop is 62cm (24 inches) deep, which means an overhang of about 2cm (0.8 inches).
For Metod, you add 1.5cm (0.6 inches) for the rail and hanging system, resulting in 61.5cm (24 inches). The Metod countertop is 63.5cm (25 inches) deep, so it also has an overhang of about 2cm (0.8 inches).
In my case, I want to use a Faktum countertop with a Metod carcass, which gives an overhang of only 0.5cm (62 minus 61.5), so almost no overhang. At first, I thought there would be a 2cm (0.8 inches) overhang in this scenario.
Only if I attach the Metod carcasses directly to the wall without the hanging rail (if this is even possible) could I save the 1.5cm (0.6 inches) of depth and then have a 2cm (0.8 inches) overhang with the Faktum countertop.
This would be the option I would most likely lean towards, provided that securing the base cabinets directly to the wall without the rail is not too complicated.
Kind regards
