I am considering installing an Ikea Pax wardrobe in my home, but I have concerns about its stability and safety on my existing floor. My question is how to securely and firmly fix an Ikea Pax wardrobe to a mostly smooth, slightly delicate floor – for example, laminate or tiles – to prevent it from tipping over or sliding, especially when it is fully loaded. Are there specific fixing methods or materials I should use to ensure optimal stability without damaging the floor? What experiences do you have, and what solutions would you recommend?

Wall mounting is mandatory. For better stability on smooth floors, simply place rubber pads under the feet. This ensures secure support and protects the floor.

I attached the tiles and the Pax system using the original wall brackets. Additionally, I placed thin cork pads under the feet. This prevents slipping and protects the floor.

Wall mounting, using rubber pads underneath, and checking adjustable feet. This gives you the best combination for a secure base without damaging the floor.

A common mistake is neglecting wall mounting, which can lead to dangerous tipping.

Exactly, that’s the key point with larger cabinets like Pax. I would like to add that the appropriate type of anchor for wall mounting should not be underestimated – there are significant differences depending on the wall type. For a solid concrete wall, you use different anchors than for a lightweight drywall (plasterboard) wall. In the latter case, it’s essential to use special hollow wall anchors.

Using cork is a good idea since it protects the floor well and also provides anti-slip properties. It’s important that the cork pads are not too thick, so the adjustable feet can still function properly. My recommendation:

- Use the original wall mounting with suitable anchors
- Align adjustable feet correctly
- Cut cork or rubber mats thinly and precisely to fit

Taken together, this results in a secure, stable, and floor-friendly installation.
