Hello everyone, I am currently planning to install my Ikea Pax wardrobe in a room with laminate flooring or alternatively vinyl flooring. My specific question is: What is the best and safest way to secure an Ikea Pax wardrobe on laminate or vinyl floors without damaging the floor and while ensuring stability?

I want to prevent the wardrobe from shifting due to slight movements or small vibrations, but I also do not want to cause permanent damage to the laminate or vinyl by direct screwing. Which mounting or fastening methods are recommended? Are there suitable floor anchors, protective plates, or special adapters?

Additionally, I am interested in any special precautions or tips for installation on these types of soft floor coverings. I look forward to your experiences and advice!

Simply put: Attach the cabinet securely to the wall and protect the feet with narrow gliders, and nothing will wobble.
This worked perfectly for me on vinyl flooring. Feel like a room captain properly mooring their ship 😉.

I would like to add a few tips, especially for those installing Pax for the first time:
- Wall mounting is mandatory, mainly for stability and to prevent tipping. Ikea provides suitable wall brackets and screws for this purpose.
- Laminate floors can sometimes dent or deform under heavy weight. That’s why I always use felt or rubber pads under the feet.
- If the floor beneath the cabinet is not completely level, either place small wooden shims underneath or slightly adjust the feet to avoid uneven pressure.
- Also, make sure to use the correct wall plugs appropriate for the wall material when drilling (e.g., cavity anchors for drywall).
- And very important: never try to screw or glue anything directly into very thin vinyl floors, as it won’t hold well and may cause damage.

I hope this helps!

In short: The floor shouldn’t be drilled, and the wardrobe needs to be safely secured to the wall – that’s where it all comes together.
Just add some padding under the feet (felt or rubber), and your Pax will stand perfectly steady. And even if a child jumps nearby, the wardrobe will still remain firmly in place.
I did the same with mine, no hassle, just smartly secured and done. That’s how you enjoy loving your furniture! 😊

With very soft vinyl flooring, a thin, rigid support board under the cabinet foot is helpful.
I think that’s a useful tip. Could you please explain in more detail which material and thickness of the support board are most effective and what I should pay attention to?

Furthermore, I will of course screw the individual modules together and be particularly careful with the wall fixing.

Felt or rubber pads under the feet
I also see this as an important protection against point loads and scratches. Does anyone have recommendations on whether felt or rubber is more suitable? Should it be rather soft or a bit firmer?

For using a baseboard under a Pax wardrobe on soft vinyl floors, I recommend:
- Material: A panel made of 9-12 mm (0.35-0.47 inch) multiplex plywood, MDF, or plywood is ideal. The material should be sturdy and not too flexible.
- Size: About the same size as the footprint of the wardrobe, so the load is evenly distributed and no point loads occur.
- Surface: The panel should be as smooth as possible to prevent scratches on the floor. Consider also using felt pads or rubber pads here.
- Important: Properly decouple the panel from the floor (e.g., with thin anti-slip cushions) to avoid moisture damage.

Regarding felt vs. rubber pads:
- Felt slides more easily and is good for scratch protection but is more slippery on smooth floors.
- Rubber offers better grip and slip resistance but provides less protection against micro-scratches.
For laminate, I would choose felt; for vinyl, rubber is better, since vinyl is smoother and more slippery.

I’d say this: felt is more of a cozy feel, like a warm sock for laminate flooring. Rubber is more like sturdy sneakers for vinyl.
You can also get creative and combine both: felt underneath with small rubber pads on top to improve grip. This way, the cabinet feels both stable and gentle in its place. 😉
