Hello everyone, I have an Ikea Pax wardrobe at home that I would like to childproof. My children are between 2 and 4 years old and very curious, so I want to prevent them from reaching the wardrobe or opening it without supervision. My main concern is to avoid injuries caused by tipping or getting fingers caught in the doors. I am wondering what practical solutions are available to make the wardrobe child-safe—such as special locks, anchoring to the floor or wall, or other mechanical safety devices. I would also like to know how easy or complicated the installation of these safety measures is in practice and if there are any recommended products that work well with the Pax system. I look forward to your experiences and tips!

Hello Marek, this is a very important topic, especially when there are small children in the household. The Pax wardrobe comes in various sizes and configurations, so the safety solution should be chosen accordingly. Basically, I always recommend the following points: - Anchoring the wardrobe to the wall to prevent it from tipping over. IKEA usually provides mounting hardware for this. - Using door and cabinet locks specifically designed for child safety. These are available as clamp-on or adhesive solutions and sometimes feature easy operation for adults. - Before purchasing, check whether the locks can be installed easily without damaging the wardrobe. Flexible solutions are often better than permanently screwed-in parts. - Additionally, shelves and drawers can be equipped with safety latches to prevent removal or swallowing of items. If you like, I can provide more details about the products we have used in our household.

Always secure the Pax unit to the wall; this is essential. Use the wall mounting kit provided by Ikea for this purpose. For door locks, I use clamp fasteners that can be installed without drilling. They work perfectly for me.

To make the cabinet childproof, three main safety aspects are crucial: - Stability against tipping: The cabinet must be securely anchored to the wall. Ikea provides suitable mounting brackets for this purpose, which should definitely be used. - Access protection: The doors should be fitted with child safety locks that children cannot open, such as magnetic or mechanical locks. - Internal safety: Drawers with strong dampers or lockable mechanisms can offer additional protection. Installing the wall anchoring is straightforward and only requires the appropriate wall plug, depending on the wall type. Many manufacturers offer special safety locks for Pax or similar cabinets, which can usually be installed with just a few steps. Combining these measures provides comprehensive protection against accidents.

Equip doors with special child safety locks. There are ones that can be hooked on or glued without causing damage. Don’t forget wall mounting, as this prevents accidents.

One more point I would like to add: especially with Pax wardrobes featuring folding doors, it is advisable to use door stoppers or special locks, as these doors can be unlocked more easily. Additionally, besides the mandatory wall anchoring, I recommend using tested safety products that are CE marked. This ensures they comply with current standards. The placement of shelves at child height should also be reconsidered, as easily accessible items always pose a risk.
