Hello everyone, I recently purchased a Pax wardrobe from IKEA and came across the recommendation to always secure the wardrobe to the wall with a mounting bracket. My specific question is: Can Pax wardrobes remain mechanically stable and safe without being fixed to the wall, without risk of tipping? I am especially interested in whether the wardrobes are stable enough under normal conditions without the wall bracket when fully assembled and evenly loaded with clothing. Or is the wall bracket absolutely necessary for safety reasons, even if no heavy load or movement is expected? I am looking forward to your experiences and opinions!

Hey, good point! Generally, Pax wardrobes are quite well constructed, but a 2-meter (6.5-foot) tall unit without wall anchoring can be a bit unstable. Sure, it’s possible for it to tip over if it’s not fixed to the wall — especially if you have children or pets who might pull or climb on it. For regular use, as you described with evenly distributed contents, it usually holds up fine. However, I would definitely recommend wall mounting for peace of mind 🙂

Pax can stand without a wall bracket, but there is a risk. With a full load and children around, I would recommend securing it to the wall.

I used my Pax for several years without attaching it to the wall, and it worked perfectly! 🎉 The important thing is that it is fully assembled and not just partially put together. However, I think it’s better to secure it properly once and then be worry-free! Better safe than sorry. Good luck with the assembly!

Interesting, but are there really valid statistics or accident reports showing that PAX wardrobes tip over more frequently without wall anchoring? I often see it as a precaution against worst-case scenarios, but for an average user without specific risks, it might be excessive. It would be helpful to have technical data on tipping safety.

Here is a brief guide based on my experience:

- Pax wardrobes are designed to be attached to the wall. The included small metal brackets are essential.
- Without wall mounting, the wardrobe can tip dangerously if loaded unevenly or when opening the doors.
- Even if everything appears stable, the risk of tipping remains under heavy load—especially the upper wardrobe sections increase leverage.
- If necessary, screw the wardrobe to the wall, even if you don’t have children—it’s about safety and preventing damage.

In summary: do not skip the wall mounting; it is not an unnecessary extra but a part of the design.
