Hello everyone,
I am currently planning my bedroom furniture and am very interested in the Ikea Pax wardrobe system. My question is: Does Ikea Pax offer extra tall wardrobes that exceed the standard height of about 236 cm (93 inches)?
I have quite tall rooms (around 270 cm (106 inches)) and would like to make the most of the space to create as much storage as possible, without having to buy additional shelves or extensions separately.
If anyone has experience or tips regarding extra tall Pax wardrobes or knows of alternative options within the Ikea range, I would greatly appreciate your feedback.

Hello deoko62,
Yes, the challenge with extra-tall Pax wardrobes is not only the availability of the carcasses but especially the safety and stability. I have installed Pax units myself in a room with a ceiling height of 270 cm (106 inches) and also encountered the 236 cm (93 inches) limit.
My approach was to purchase the wardrobes at the maximum available height and fill the remaining space with custom-made shelves—not from Ikea.
Wall mounting is also mandatory, particularly for taller wardrobes, otherwise the tipping safety can be easily compromised.
If you like, I can gladly offer tips on installation and stabilization, especially if you want to stack or extend the wardrobes further.

Are there any experience reports on how others have solved this?Experience shows that users often follow two approaches:
- Option 1: Installing Pax units at standard height plus separate top shelves or decorative trims, which do not necessarily have to be from Ikea.
- Option 2: Custom-made or additional furniture pieces that fill the space between the Pax and the ceiling to maximize storage capacity.
Ikea itself recommends not stacking cabinet bodies on top of each other, as this compromises stability. Wall mounting is necessary in any case.
Therefore, I would recommend a solution of moderate complexity where you make full use of the Pax cabinet and cover the remaining space with complementary elements.

Safety first, especially when there are children in the house.
I would appreciate it if you could share a brief update after installation about what solution you ultimately choose. I am still looking for the best option myself.

That really sounds like an important safety issueI can confirm that. At first, I didn’t consider the tipping safety and almost built an unsafe structure. My recommendation:
- Only use the assembly instructions provided by the manufacturer
- Prefer smaller cabinets and visually fill the upper area with light shelves
- Be cautious with any modifications to the cabinet that might affect stability
Your idea of getting everything from one source is understandable. However, don’t be tempted to create risky constructions.
In summary:
- Ikea Pax cabinets are officially available only up to a carcass height of 236 cm (93 inches).
- There is no extra-tall, continuous cabinet solution above 236 cm (93 inches) in the range.
- Add-on shelves or complementary elements can utilize space up to 270 cm (106 inches).
- Stacking cabinet carcasses is not supported by Ikea.
- Wall mounting is mandatory for safety.
If more height is needed beyond this, it is recommended to customize individually or use additional furniture.
Hope this clarifies the question thoroughly.
