Hello everyone, I am currently planning the installation of the IKEA Metod kitchen system and want to prepare as best as possible, especially regarding the essential assembly materials. My specific question is: "Which assembly materials are absolutely necessary for installing the IKEA Metod system to ensure a stable and secure kitchen furniture setup?" I am interested in all essential tools, fasteners, and mounting kits that should definitely be available, covering cabinet assembly, wall mounting, as well as the installation of doors and interior fittings. Are there any items that IKEA does not provide as standard but that I should definitely obtain? Thanks in advance for your recommendations and tips!
I think the importance of the assembly materials included with IKEA Metod is somewhat overrated. Of course, the cam connectors and screws are important, but what really matters is your own craftsmanship. If you use the cordless drill incorrectly, you’ll ruin all the screws, and then even the best materials won’t help. If you want to build something sturdy, you mainly need to invest time and work carefully – the materials are secondary.
Also: why buy extra anchors? I mean, the standard wall brackets and screws from IKEA are usually sufficient, aren’t they?

Thank you for your perspective, but I actually want to avoid relying solely on “craftsmanship skills” as the main factor, since I want to minimize the risk of extensive rework or damage.
Regarding the question of wall plugs: my wall is a combination of load-bearing masonry and drywall in some areas. That is precisely why I am looking for recommendations on which wall plugs and screws I should additionally purchase, as IKEA typically does not provide suitable ones.
It would be great if someone with experience could share which types of wall plugs work best for different wall constructions and whether there are specific mounting kits that perfectly support the Metod installation.

I completely understand your caution, Bikomar. In my own kitchen, I had the problem of using the wrong wall plugs—a disaster that only became clear to me afterward. I had used simple plastic anchors designed for drywall, which did not hold. Since then, I have been using special metal cavity anchors, as WARREN mentioned, and I can only recommend this, especially for lighter kitchen cabinets.
Additionally, I want to add that when installing doors, it is important to have screws with the correct thread, which IKEA often does not sell individually. It might be worth buying such screws at a local hardware store to supplement the materials.

I agree with the recommendation to use good anchors. Wall fixings should definitely not be neglected – I once assembled a Metod kitchen where choosing the wrong simple anchors later caused wobbling. My advice: For heavy wall cabinets, be sure to use heavy-duty anchors, such as metal expansion anchors or bolt anchors, depending on the wall material.
Regarding tools: A cordless hammer drill makes many tasks easier, and having the right bits is essential. By the way, IKEA also offers additional sets if you need more fasteners. In the end, investing in quality materials and tools pays off.

I just wanted to emphasize how important it is to choose the right mounting materials according to your living environment. Especially if you have children or pets, securely installed shelves or cabinets can be a matter of safety.
Sometimes it’s better to buy additional materials – like door dampers or particularly sturdy hinges. I was also nervous about assembling at first, but with the right preparation, you feel much more confident and it can even be enjoyable.
