Hello everyone, I am currently planning to assemble IKEA Metod cabinets but have a very limited set of tools available. My question is: How can I assemble IKEA Metod cabinets using as little tooling as possible, without compromising on stability? I only have a cordless drill, a screwdriver, and a hammer. Many of the instructions rely on various specialized tools or helpers, which I do not have. Are there any tips or special tricks to make the assembly as efficient and low-tool as possible? Thanks!

The cordless drill covers most tasks, especially with the right Phillips bit. It is important to first screw all screws in loosely, then tighten them afterwards. Avoid overtightening the screws to reduce the risk of damage.

I also had only a minimal amount of tools when assembling my first Metod cabinet, which can quickly become frustrating. A tip from me: take your time and don’t put yourself under pressure. If you notice something is off, carefully check everything step by step. I sometimes followed the printed instructions closely, which often made the process easier.

Regarding efficiency: You are well equipped with a cordless screwdriver and a manual screwdriver. I also recommend a small rubber mallet set, which makes fitting the Lamello fasteners easier. Important: Use the screw holes exactly as described in the instructions; the pre-drilled holes are precisely positioned and should not require any force. Regarding lack of tools: A utility knife can help open the packaging parts more easily, if available.

Make sure the cordless screwdriver is fully charged. A Phillips #2 bit is often the best tool for IKEA furniture. Avoid using long screws, as they can cause the wood to split.

Can confirm: a cordless screwdriver plus the appropriate bit are enough. First tighten the screws by hand, then evenly tighten them fully. A hammer is only needed if you have to set anchors; otherwise, you can minimize its use.
