dane33Hello everyone, I am planning to assemble several IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets by myself and wonder if this is realistic without anyone to assist me during installation. I don’t have any basic DIY skills issues, but I lack a second person to hold larger cabinets or help with mounting them to the wall. Does anyone have experience assembling Metod cabinets alone? How demanding is it, and what difficulties might arise without a second person? Are there any tips or special tools that can make solo assembly easier? I would greatly appreciate detailed feedback.
The assembly of the IKEA Metod series can generally be done alone if you have some DIY skills and experience. It becomes more challenging, especially with the heavy tall cabinets and wall mounting, as these require secure load support. Without a second person, the risk of damage or mistakes is higher. Using assembly aids such as clamps or mounting stands is recommended to help secure the components.
Assembling the Metod system without an assembly aid is definitely doable but requires thorough preparation and patience. First, you should prepare your workspace optimally: sufficient space and a clear overview of all components are important. For carcasses that are particularly large and heavy, I recommend temporarily attaching the back panel before assembly to increase stability. If you are working alone, it is advisable to use saw horses or sturdy shelves as temporary supports so you don’t have to hold the parts by yourself. The key is to work step by step with calm and care.
If you plan to fasten the cabinets to the wall, an assembly aid or at least an assembly bracket as a support is essential to prevent any slipping.
I’m also curious: Are you mainly planning tall cabinets, or also base cabinets? And what are the dimensions of the individual elements?

I would also be interested: Are you primarily planning tall cabinets or base cabinets as well? And what are the dimensions of the individual units? Thanks for asking. I mainly plan to install tall cabinets measuring 60x60x200 cm (24x24x79 inches) as well as base cabinets of 80x60x80 cm (31x24x31 inches). Wall cabinets are also planned, but smaller ones around 40x37x70 cm (16x15x28 inches). The cabinets will be securely fixed to the wall, as is common with IKEA furniture. Tools like a cordless drill and a spirit level are available, but assembly aids such as clamps are not.
Based on the given dimensions, I would especially advise against installing the tall cabinets alone without assistance. At 60x60x200 cm (24x24x79 inches), handling the parts is too difficult to safely and accurately position them while securing them to the wall at the same time. The transport orientation and aligning the cabinet units before fixing them are particularly critical. Base cabinets are much easier to manage on your own. If you want to save on installation aids, hidden temporary solutions are recommended, such as door wedges or wooden boards that serve as temporary supports.
